Men’s Soccer Draws Seton Hall 1-1 in Strong Showing

8.29.22 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple men's soccer team (1-0-1, 0-0-0 AAC) earned a draw in a hard fought game against the Seton Hall Pirates (1-0-1, 0-0-0, BIG EAST) 1-1 Monday night. Eoin Gawronski played a stellar game in goal, with seven saves.

How it Happened
> Gawronski was tested in the 17th minute and made an early save on what was the only shot on goal of the first half.
> The first frame was chippy. Five yellow cards were pulled between the two teams.
> Temple came out flying in the second half. Mike Eijgendaal came down the left side of the pitch and threaded a ball through two Seton Hall defenders to find Andrew Burkhardt. Burkhardt used fancy footwork to center the ball and fired to the back of the net for the first goal of the match and his second in four games dating back to last season.
> Seton Hall found a goal of it's own only three minutes later to knot things up at one.
> Things got more interesting after the Pirates' goal, with four shots and a yellow card in the next six minutes. Two of the shots were saved by Gawronski.
> There were three more shots on goal in the rest of the match, with Gawronski saving two. Temple's lone shot on target was the first college shot by Lleyton Imparato.
> For the second straight season, the matchup between the two sides ended in draw.

 Game Notes
> This is the second straight year that Temple and Seton Hall have tied. Last season, the Owls had a 0-0 draw against No. 10 Seton Hall to open the campaign.
> Imparato made his Temple debut, while Kemali Green saw his first action of the season.
> Draven Barnett and Fridtjof Andberg played their second consecutive full 90's.
> Nine cards were pulled in the match. Elyad Shojaei had two yellows pulled on him. As a result, he will miss the Georgetown matchup on Friday.

From the Coach
"We played the game I wanted us to play. Looked the team I wanted to build, Seton Hall respected the way we play. I feel really good about what we did, we just need to tighen up a couple things." - Head Coach Brian Rowland

Up Next
> The Owls hit the road for the first time this season as they head down to DC to face No. 2 Georgetown. The 4 p.m. match will be streamed on FloSports.
