Men’s Soccer Travels to No. 19/9 Georgetown for First Road Match of the Season

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's soccer team (1-0-1, 0-0-0 AAC) will travel to face No. 19/9 Georgetown (0-1-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) in Washington D.C. on Friday. This will be the Owls' first road match, as well as first ranked opponent of the 2022 season. The match will be streamed on FloSports.
LAST TIME OUT
> Temple drew Seton Hall 1-1 on Monday.
> Andrew Burkhardt scored the goal for Temple in the 53rd minute of the match. Seton Hall countered with a goal of their own in 56th.
> Senior captain Mike Eijgendaal found Burkhardt for the assist. Eijgendaal has now assisted both of Temple's two goals this season.
> The match was exceptionally chippy; nine cards were pulled in total on both squads. Temple's Elyad Shojaei received two yellow cards resulting in an ejection, he will miss the Georgetown game as a result.
THE OWL POST
> Eoin Gawronski was named AAC Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday. It is his sixth AAC Weekly Award in 13 career starts.
> Yann Kouemi also earned a spot on the American Weekly Honor Roll after scoring on Thursday.
> Shojaei earned Philadelphia Soccer Six Defender of the Week, while Draven Barnett earned Rookie of the Week.
> This match was scheduled to take place last season in Philadelphia, but Covid protocols saw the match pushed back to this year and moved to D.C.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
> 2021 was another fantastic season for the Hoyas. After winning the national title in 2019, and an elite eight berth in 2020-21, Georgetown returned to the Final Four last season where they fell to Washington.
> The Hoyas were ranked No. 2 in the preseason poll. In their first two matches, Georgetown dropped the opener to No. 7/9 Pitt, and tied High Point to slip down to No. 19 in the coaches poll and No. 9 in the TopDrawerSoccer rankings.
> Daniel Wu is a player to watch for Georgetown. Wu was named Second-Team All-BIG EAST in 2021 and earned Preseason BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year this preseason.
> Brian Wiese leads the Hoyas in his 17th season. Weise has taken to the program to record highs during his tenure in D.C.

> Despite being located only 125 miles from each other and being two of the older Division I soccer programs in the country, Temple and Georgetown met for the first time in 2019.
> No. 13 Georgetown won that matchup in the district 3-0.
