This Week
Temple will take on UMass for the final game of its three game home stand on Saturday, September 24. Kickoff is set for 2pm and the game will air on ESPN+ and 97.5 The Fanatic.
Last Week
Temple was defeated by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, 16-14. The story of the game was defense, more specifically Rutgers' defensive touchdown by defensive back Shaquan Loyal. The pick-six gave the Scarlet Knights the lead before halftime, which the Owls were never able to match in the second half, albeit keeping the game close until the end. Outside linebacker Layton Jordan continued his hot start to the season, adding two more sacks to his team leading total. Tight end Jordan Smith was on the receiving end of an E.J. Warner touchdown pass for the second consecutive week.
Last Time vs. UMass
The last time the Owls took on the UMass Minutemen, Temple pulled off the victory 29-21 at Lincoln Financial Field. In the game, redshirt sophomore QB Logan Marchi had his third straight 200+ yard performance, throwing 22 of 37 for 248 yards and three touchdowns. The three touchdowns marked a career best for the Bristol, Conn., native. Marchi also found 11 different receivers in the game. Junior RB Ryquell Armstead saw his best performance of the season with 91 rushing yards on 17 carries. Armstead started early for the Owls, as he had already accrued over 60 yards on the first drive. Defensively, Temple saw a huge performance from its front seven, registering nine sacks as a team for the highest total since Sept. 5, 2015 when the Owls sacked Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg 10 times at Lincoln Financial Field, a mark that still stands today. Individually, redshirt freshman Quincy Roche was the standout player with three sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. The sack total against UMass was also the second highest by a Temple team since 2000.
Temple-UMass History
The Owls lead the all-time series 2-0, with Temple winning the only two games in 2015 and 2017.
