Football Falls to Duke in Season Opener

DURHAM, N.C. – Temple (0-1, 0-0) lost to the Duke Blue Devils (1-0, 0-0) in Durham, 30-0 Friday evening. The story of the game was Duke's offense powered by sophomore quarterback Riley Leonard, who threw for 328 yards and two touchdowns.
How It Happened
First Quarter
The Owls won the toss and elected to kickoff. Duke began the opening drive at the 25-yard line, driving the ball down the field for an early touchdown by running back Jaylen Colman to make it 7-0. Temple followed with its first drive of the season resulting in a three and out. The teams traded punts on the ensuing drives. Duke would drive down the field again, but the defense for Temple was able to hold them to a field goal to make it 10-0.
Second Quarter
After another Temple punt, Duke went 72 yards in seven plays capped off by a Leonard touchdown pass to Jordan Moore to make it 17-0. Duke would add another touchdown, this time by Sahmir Hagans, making it 24-0. Darian Varner recorded the first sack of the season for Temple.
Third Quarter
Temple began the third quarter with the ball but was stopped. Duke would add a field goal to make it 27-0.
Fourth Quarter
Duke would connect on another field goal to begin the fourth quarter to complete the scoring at 30-0.
