Women’s Soccer to Host Gonzaga Sunday

9.23.22 | Women's Soccer

PHILADLEPHIA – Temple women's soccer (0-4-4, 0-2-0 AAC) is set to host Gonzaga (4-2-2, 0-0-0 WCC) for the first time in program history on Sunday, Sept. 25. The match is set for 11 a.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ from the Temple Sports Complex.

The Owls
  • The Owls returned home after a six-match road stretch on Thursday evening, putting on an impressive performance against No. 21 SMU. Despite allowing an early 13th minute goal, the Owls held the Mustangs to just nine total shots, with only six on goal. The Cherry and White had an offensive burst in the second half, creating multiple scoring opportunities, but it wouldn't prove to be enough to find the equalizer, and the Mustangs came out on top, 1-0.
  • Prior to the match against SMU, the Cherry and White recorded a 1-0 loss to Tulsa after posting two consecutive 0-0 draws against Drexel and Rider. Kyla Burns was a standout in goal for the Owls recording 15 saves between the two draws. After her eight-save performance against Drexel, Burns was named AAC Goalkeeper of the Week for her efforts, her second conference accolade of the season after earning Weekly Honor Roll for posting a clean sheet against Penn on Aug. 26.
  • 2021 First Team All-Conference selection Emily Kavanaugh notched the lone goal of 2022, after netting a header in the 63rd minute of the Maryland matchup off a goalie deflection.
Scouting the Bulldogs
  • The matchup against Temple marks the ninth matchup for the year for the Bulldogs, posting a 4-2-2 record, having not yet started conference play. In all four of their wins, they have blanked their opponents, 3-0. The matchups included Idaho State, Weber State, Cal Poly and CSU Bakersfield.
  • The Bulldogs have showcased their offensive versatility this year, with nine different goal-scorers in just eight games. Leading the charge is senior Erin Healy, who has netted a team-high four goals and added two assists for ten points.  This comes as no surprise, as Healy was named to the All-WCC Preseason team after an impressive season last year. In addition to her preseason hardware, Healy was named to the First Team All-WCC and Second Team All-West Region at the conclusion of the 2021 season.
  • Redshirt junior Maddie Kemp has been a kick starter for the Bulldogs, dishing out four helpers to tie for third on the West Coast Conference assist leaderboard.
  • Gonzaga has looked to senior Lyza Bosselmann in goal, who has posted 23 saves for a .767 save percentage.
