Women’s Soccer Falls to Gonzaga in Programs First Ever Meeting
9.25.22 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's soccer (0-5-4, 0-2-0 AAC) dropped to Gonzaga (5-2-2, 0-0-0 WCC), 4-1 at the Temple Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon in the programs first ever matchup against the Bulldogs. A consistent offensive push from Gonzaga, including an early two-goal burst was enough to carry the Bulldogs to victory.
How it Happened
"We are hoping to continue to build on some of the positives we had against SMU and Gonzaga this week," head coach Nick Bochette said. "We believe that we have made strides of improvement but as we enter conference play it's a question of how quickly we can keep advancing to make that hard work payoff and find success when it matters most."

How it Happened
- Gonzaga entered the match with intensity, striking first to secure the go-ahead goal in the eighth minute of play.
- The Bulldogs kept the offensive pressure on, finding the back of the net again just 11 minutes later, advancing the lead to two to finish out the half, 2-0.
- The Owls looked to halt the Bulldogs momentum, entering the second half with an offensive burst. The Cherry and White found shots from Phoebe Hollin and Roisin McGovern, before securing back-to-back corner kicks by the 53rd minute.
- The Bulldog defense held strong, and by the 80th minute, they transitioned the defensive efforts into an offensive opportunity, sneaking their third goal of the day into the net.
- Just thee minutes later, the Cherry and White found their opening after securing a penalty kick due to a handball inside the box. McGovern lined up for the kick, firing a shot on goal that was deflected by the goalie, but McGovern followed the shot to get the tap-in and put the Owls on the board.
- Less than a minute later, Gonzaga netted the final goal of the game to finish out the match, 4-1.
