Men’s Soccer Travels to SMU in Second Straight Road Game

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's soccer team (2-4-2, 0-2-0 AAC) will hit the road Friday for its second straight road game to face the SMU Mustangs (5-1-2, 1-1-0 AAC). This is the only time this season that Temple will play back-to-back away games.
THE OWL POST
> Mike Eijgendaal has five assists this season. He is tied for third in the AAC in total helpers. He is 14th nationally in assists.
> Eijgendaal, Sean Karani, Yann Kouemi, and Sawyer Koza are tied for the team lead in goals (2).
> Three players on the roster have topped over 600 minutes. Draven Barnett leads the Owls with 645 minutes. Elyad Shojaei ranks second on the roster with 626, Eijgendaal comes in third with 610 minutes played.
> Sawyer Koza and Sean Karani have both had fantastic recent stretches of games. Both have scored two goals and passed for an assist in the last three matches. Koza has earned back-to-back Philly Soccer Six Rookie of the Week awards.
SCOUTING SMU
> SMU tallied an 8-5-3 record in 2021. The Mustangs started out red-hot, defeating No. 8 Stanford and tying No. 23 Saint Louis. SMU climbed as high as No. 12 in the United Soccer Coaches rankings before losing four out of its final six matches.
> The Mustangs are 5-2-1 on the year and 1-1 in the American. They fell to No. 3 Stanford 3-1 in an early season matchup. They most recently defeated FIU in a 6-4 offensive battle. They are currently receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll and are 25th in the TopDrawerSoccer rankings.
> SMU features a trio of the best offensive players in the nation. Knut Ahlander returns to Dallas for a fifth year. Ahlander has been named All-AAC three times in his career and is currently tied for the national lead in both goals per game (1.0) and points per game (2.0). He shares the lead in points, is tied fourth nationally with fellow Mustang Jose Ortiz. Ortiz is ranked 9th nationally in goals per match (.88). Rounding out the headliners for the Mustangs is Alexander Petraeus. Petraeus is tied for third in the AAC, and 14th nationally in assists (5).
> Kevin Hudson leads SMU in his eighth season. He is 84-34-15 during his time in Dallas. The Mustangs have twice made it to the Elite Eight during his tenure.
