Field Hockey Looks to Continue Early Momentum

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team will look to continue its early success this weekend, hosting LIU Friday afternoon before traveling to Bucknell on Sunday.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
> The Owls are off to their best start in recent memory, going 3-1 through the first two weekends of play and outscoring its opponents 9-1. Temple has conceded just one goal so far this season, shutting out three teams in the process. This is the fewest allowed through four games since 2010 (2).
> The team scored six goals against Lehigh in the home opener, the most goals in a game for the Cherry and White since topping Towson 9-0 in 2015.
> Molly Frey has been a force in goal, posting 12 of the team's 14 saves for a 0.923 save percentage to rank second in the nation. Her 0.25 GAA also ranks second in the NCAA.
> Nienke Oerlemans leads the team's backline, recording two defensive saves and helping the team successfully defend 12 of 13 penalty corner attempts. Her seven career defensive saves tie for 10th in the nation among active players. 

DEFENSE DOES IT
> The Owls have had a stellar defensive performance through the first two weeks, conceding just one goal through four games. This is the fewest allowed through four games since 2010 (2).
> Temple conceded its lone goal to No. 12 Virginia, a 2021 NCAA Tournament team that has not been held to one goal in any other game.
> The Cherry and White is third in the NCAA in defensive saves (2), second in GAA (0.25), save percentage (0.933), and shutouts per game (0.75).

SCOUTING LIU
> LIU is 1-3 on the season, dropping its first three matches before defeating La Salle 3-1 on Sept. 4.
> The Sharks have scored at least one goal in three of their games, but were shutout 3-0 at UMass Lowell.
> The defense has allowed at least one goal in every game, and three or more in the first three games of the season.
> LIU has been outscored by its opponents 12-5.

SERIES HISTORY
> This will be just the second meeting between the two teams, with Temple topping the Sharks 3-0 at Howarth Field in 2019.

SCOUTING BUCKNELL
> Bucknell is 0-3 entering the weekend and will host Central Michigan Friday afternoon.
> Two of the team's losses have been decided by one goal, including a 2-1 loss versus No. 9 Louisville.
> Three Bison have scored, with the team being outscored 11-5.

SERIES HISTORY
> This will be the 10th meeting between the teams, with Temple holding a 5-4 series edge.
> The Owls are on a three-game skid, last topping the Bison in 2014 in Lewisburg, Pa.
> Four of the team's last five matchups have been decided by one goal, and the 2015 game ended in a 2-1 overtime loss for the Cherry and White at home.
