Aleah Nelson Named AAC Player of the Week; Clinton Earns Big 5 Honor Roll

1.2.23 | Women's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA – Following a dominant performance in the conference opener against Memphis, Temple women's basketball point guard Aleah Nelson has won American Athletic Conference Player of the Week. This is the second time in three weeks that Nelson has been named Player of the Week. Fellow guard Jasha Clinton also has been honored with a spot on the Big 5 Weekly Honor Roll. This week's Big 5 awards included the last two weeks after not announcing weekly awards last week due to the holiday break. This is the first time Clinton has earned honors this season.

Nelson had one of the most well-rounded performances of any Temple women's basketball player this season in the Owls' impressive 80-69 win over Memphis. Nelson scored 20 points to go with a season-high eight rebounds and game-high six assists. She is the first Owl to lead the team in points, rebounds, and assists since Mia Davis on 11/27/21 last season, and one of only two players in Division I this season to put up at least 20 points, eight rebounds, and six assists without turning the ball over.

Clinton had her best pair of games this season with two highly efficient performances. She went 6-11 from the field and 4-5 from the line for 16 points in Temple's game against Ole Miss while also passing for two assists. In Friday's win over Memphis, the guard scored a season-high 17 while shooting 7-11 including her first three pointer made of the season. Clinton added four rebounds and four assists as well. She averaged a team-high 16.5 points and 3.0 assists over the last two games, shooting .591 percent from the field.

Temple will take the floor again tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. as the Owls face RV. South Florida on the road. The game will make Temple's national TV debut for the season on ESPNU.
