Emmerich Continues Hot Play, Leads Temple After First Round of Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, NC – Aidan Emmerich continued his recent hot play, shooting a four-under 138 to lead Temple and tie for ninth at the 16-team, 90-player Phoenix Invitational.  After the first 36 holes, the Owls are also tied for ninth with Old Dominion as a team.   The final 18 holes will be played Tuesday at the 6,867-yard, par-71 Alamance Country Club.

Recapping the Day
> Emmerich shot an even par 71 in the morning round before catching fire with a new collegiate best four-under 67 in the afternoon.   Emmerich, who led the Owls and placed eighth overall at The Bill Cullum Invitational last week, topped Temple and tied for seventh overall with nine birdies on the day.
> Graham Chase was next for Temple, shooting back-to-back one-under 70s to tie for 19th overall with a two-under 140.   He led the Owls after the first round and had six birdies on the day.
> Ethan Whitney and Michael Walsh were next, tying for 53rd overall with three-over 145s.   Walsh was even par in the morning before shooting a three-over 74 in the afternoon while Whitney shot a 73-72 for his two rounds.
> Andrew Curran struggled on the day, shooting consecutive 80s to round out the Owls starters. 
> Jake Naese, playing as an individual, shot rounds of 78 and 74 for a 152 for his day.

The Field
> Western Carolina (549) leads host Elon (550) by one stroke with Presbyterian five strokes (555) behind in third place.  The Owls (568) are 19 strokes off the pace.
> Teams will play a final 18 holes on Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m from holes one and 10.
