Field Hockey Earns Senior Day Shutout Over Lafayette

10.29.23 | Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple field hockey team (11-7, 4-3 BIG EAST) earned its fifth shutout of the season Sunday afternoon, topping Lafayette (11-6, 5-1 Patriot) 1-0 to close out the regular season. Prior to the game, the Owls honored their seniors and graduate students as part of senior day festivities.

Recapping the Game
> The game started off slow, with Temple taking the only three shots of the quarter and attempting one penalty corner.
> The Leopards fired a pair of shots in the second, but a save from Molly Frey kept the game scoreless at the half.
> Neither team was able to get a shot off in the third frame, with most of the action occurring between the 25s.
> Tess Muller scored the go-ahead goal in the fourth, dribbling the ball along the end line and slipping it behind the Lafayette keeper at the 51-minute mark.
> Lafayette would pull its keeper with just under four minutes on the clock but wasn't able to find the back of the cage.

Statistically Speaking
> Temple outshot the Leopards 8-3, with Alizé Maes and Muller leading both teams with two each.
> Lafayette edged the Owls in corner attempts 2-1.
> Lilly Petersen posted her first defensive save in Cherry and White.

Quotable
> "Senior day is so important. You have very special people who dedicate four years of their life to Temple field hockey, and being able to honor them with a win against a great opponent like Lafayette was such an honor. I have so much respect for Lafayette's coach, so to get it done for the seniors in the regular season final was special to me. I'm proud of this group." – head coach Michelle Vittese
