Golf Heads West to Compete at the Bill Cullum Invitational

PHILADELPHIA - Temple Golf will travel to the West Coast next week to take part in the 27th annual Bill Cullum Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be held on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 9-10, at The Saticoy Club in Somis (Ventura County).
Scouting the Owls
> Junior Ethan Whitney leads the Owls with a 71.43 stroke average over the first three tournaments which includes seven rounds.  He topped Temple in both the Cornell Fall Invitational, carding a three-under to place second in the field, and the Ironwood Collegiate Classic with a two-under to tie for 15th overall.
> Freshman Matthew Vital, who joined the Owls starting lineup last week, is next with a 72.4 stroke average over five rounds while senior Graham Chase follows closely behind with a 72.86 average over seven rounds.
> Aidan Emmerich (73.14) and Michael Walsh (73.43) will be among the starters this tournament with Jake Haberstumpf (73.25) and Joey Morganti (74.50) making the trip as individuals.

The Field
> Besides Temple and host Cal State Northridge, the 14-team tournament field is comprised of Cal State Fullerton, CSU San Bernardino, Hawai'i, North Dakota State, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, Stanislaus State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, Utah State, and Weber State.
> The tournament kicks off with a practice round on Sunday, Oct. 8 and will be followed by 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 9 and 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
> Host CSUN has won the previous two championships and the Matadors' Felix Schrott defeated UC Irvine's Darien Zhao in a one-hole playoff to win the 2022 Individual title with a score of 6-under 210.Â
