East Scores 24 as Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 23 Ole Miss on the Road

OXFORD, Ms. – The Temple women's basketball team (2-2) fell to the No. 23 Ole Miss Rebels (2-1), 80-63 in the Owls' first road game of the season. Tiarra East led all scorers with 24 points, including 9-9 from the line. The wing fell one point short of her career high. The Rebels were exceptional from the field, hitting 51.8% from the field including 56.7% in the first half.
First Quarter: Temple 13, Ole Miss 24
> Ole Miss got out to an early lead, building an 11-2 advantage in the first 2:04 of game time. Demi Washington nailed the first bucket for the Cherry & White.
> East hit three free throws early to cut into the Ole Miss lead (11-5, Miss) going into the first media timeout.
> The Owls stayed in the game throughout the first quarter despite the Rebels shooting 67% from the field. Temple hit 9-11 from the line.
> East scored 9 of Temple's 13 points in the first frame.
Second Quarter: Temple 26, Ole Miss 42
> East and Washington continued to power Temple through the beginning of the second quarter, combing for the first 20 Temple points (33-20, Miss).
> The Rebels extended the lead to 19 points, driven by continued hot shooting from the field (46.7%). A three pointer from Tarriyonna Gary trimmed the Ole Miss advantage to 16 going into the break.
> Washington impressed in the first half, hitting 3-4 from the field and sinking her only free throw.
Third Quarter: Temple 43, Ole Miss 61
> Ole Miss scored the first five points of the half to build a 21-point lead, 47-26.
> The Owls caught fire with eight straight of their own to bring the deficit down to 13 and force an Ole Miss timeout. Washington scored eight during the run.
> Temple kept the good times rolling with a bucket from East after the timeout to cut the lead to 11, its lowest point since it was 29-18 with 6:44 remaining in the second.
> The Rebels scored seven straight to build the lead back to 18 points to end the frame.
> East continued to star, with nine points in the third.
Fourth Quarter: Temple 63, Ole Miss 80
> The teams traded baskets to start the final frame. Taylor scored seven of Temple's first 13 points.
> Jaleesa Molina came on late to score five points in the last two minutes.
Game Notes
> East had another spectacular day from the line, going 9 for 9. She fell only three free throws short of the school record for most made free throws without a miss.
> Ole Miss did not connect from the field for nearly five straight minutes in the third quarter.
> Washington scored 14 points, the second most points of her career. She set her career-high of 17 on 12/19/2020 when she was attending Vanderbilt.
> Rayne Tucker set a new season-high with eight rebounds for the game high to go with two blocks.
