HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- Temple got off to a good start from the floor, hitting three of its first six shots in the opening five minutes. Miller was key in the stretch, connecting for seven before the initial media timeout. As the half continued, the Owls maintained the lead, but the Lions stayed close, shooting well from distance.
- The final four minutes of the half told a different story as TU went cold and Columbia remained hot from three-point range, hitting eight treys in the opening 20 minutes and ending the half on a 13-0 run as the Owls trailed 44-37 into intermission. Â
- In the opening moments of the second half, it looked like the Lions would run away with the game, pushing their lead to 56-42 with 13:31 to go before a 7-0 run for Temple cut the advantage to 56-49 in a matter of 75 seconds. Â
- Trailing by nine with just less than four minutes remaining, Picarelli delivered a trio of free throws followed by a trey and layup by Miller, sparking an 8-3 run that chopped the lead to 71-67 at the 2:04 mark. TU brought the lead down to two on a three-pointer by Picarelli with 13 seconds left, but the Lions closed the game at the line.Â
