Last Time Out - Owls Comeback Comes Up Just Short
Hysier Miller scored a career-best 29 points, but a late Temple comeback fell just short as the Owls fell to Columbia 78-73 on Saturday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Miller also delivered six assists and had four rebounds.
  • Jahlil White added 11 points and six rebounds.
  • Matteo Picarelli scored 18. Zion Stanford provided a spark off the bench with seven.
  • Sam Hofman led the Owls with eight rebounds.
Scoring The Ball
Hysier Miller posted a career-best 29 points against Columbia. So far this season, he has led Temple in three of four games.

Props
Miller's career best scoring effort was part of a week where he averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game, earning him Big 5 Player of the Week and AAC Honor Roll accolades. It is the second time in two weeks that an Owl has garnered both recognitions. Jahlil White was received both for week one of the year.

Picarelli To The Line, Shooting Three
It's not a sight you normally see more than a handful of times a season, but Matteo Picarelli getting fouled while shooting a three is becoming a common occurrence. Thanks to his quick release, the senior from Milan, Italy has been fouled while in the act of shooting from beyond the arc, five times this season; once against UMES and twice each at Drexel and against Columbia. He has cashed in on his attempts at the line in those situations, making all 13, starting with his four-point play on opening night. Overall for the season, Picarelli leads TU with 20 made free throws and a .909 percentage.

Speaking Of The Line
The Owls have feasted at the charity stripe in the early going, ranking third in the nation in free throw percentage at 83.8 and are ninth in the country in free throws made at 20.8 a game. Temple has made at least 15 from the line in each game so far.

Valuing The Ball
Temple has done a strong job of taking care of the ball in its first four games, ranking 25th nationally with 9.0 turnovers a game. The Owls turnover margin of 4.2 is also in the top-60 in NCAA Division I.

What We're Keeping An Eye On
A handful of Owls are approaching career milestones. Steve Settle III has has milestone numbers he can reach this season with 850 points, 96 assists, 87 steals and 64 blocks. Hysier Miller has 176 assists and Matteo Picarelli has drained 91 career three-pointers.

Scouting Report
Ole Miss is 4-0 on the season and is coming off a 70-67 win against Sam Houston State on Friday. The Rebels were picked 10th in the SEC preseason poll.

Leading the way for Ole Miss is Allen Flanigan at 18.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Matthew Murrell is scoring 15.0 an outing while Jaylen Murray is tallying 12.8 a night. Off the bench, TJ Caldwell is playing starter minutes and posting 8.3 points a contest. Murray has 18 assists.

One player of note who makes his presence felt on the defensive end is Jamarion Sharp. The 7'5" center from Hopkinsville, Ky. is the tallest player in Division I basketball and led the nation in blocks each of the last two years while playing for Western Kentucky at more than four a game. He has 10 blocks in four games this season for Ole Miss.

An overall strong start is nothing new for the Rebels who have won three or more games in a row to open the season for a fifth year in a row. Part of that has been fueled by their ability to hold on to the ball as they average just 9.2 turnovers a contest.

An early area of concern has been free throw shooting. Ole Miss is 11th in the SEC in both free throw percentage at 69.0 percent and free throws made per game (14.5).

Chris Beard is in his first season at Ole Miss. In his 12th season as a collegiate head coach overall, he has a record of 241-98 with eight seasons mentoring teams to 20 or more wins, including a high-water mark of 31 and a trip to the NCAA Championship game in 2019.

All-Time Series
Wednesday is the sixth matchup between the Owls and Rebels with Temple holding a 3-2 advantage. The game last season was the first between the schools since 1998.

Last Time Against Ole Miss
