Women’s Basketball Hosts Northwestern for Annual School Day Game

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (6-5) concludes non-conference play this Thursday as the Owls host Big Ten foe Northwestern (4-7, 0-1 Big Ten) at 11 a.m. (ESPN+/Varsity Network App). This will be the annual School Day game for Temple as The Liacouras Center will play host to students from several schools from around the Philadelphia metro area. PROMOTIONS/THEMES
> School Day Game: It this Temple's annual school day game. Schools from around the Delaware Valley Region will visit beginning at 9 a.m. for a range of educational programming and drills with the Temple women's basketball staff.

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 85 @ La Salle 61
> Temple won its third straight game on Thursday, hammering Big 5 rival La Salle. With the victory, the Owls will conclude Big 5 play with a record of 2-2.
> After being up nine points at halftime, Temple rolled in the second half, scoring 49 points, its second highest-scoring half of the season. Four Owls scored in double-figures.
> Tarriyonna Gary tied her career-high, pouring in 23 points. The shooting guard hit 5-10 from deep and 8-14 from the field.

THE OWLS
> Nelson continues to rank second in the AAC in assists per game (5.0). She is scoring 10.7 points per game, good for second on the team. She has now passed for at least five assists in six straight games. Nelson ranks 12th in Division I among active players in assists, two behind Jaz Shelley of Nebraska.
> Tiarra East leads Temple in scoring with 11.3 ppg. The wing has now scored in double figures in each of the last five games. The wing put up 13 points and tied her season-high with three assists at La Salle.
> Rayne Tucker paces the team in rebounds, pulling down 6.7 per game (10th AAC). She is also fourth in the AAC in blocked shots 1.4 bpg. The forward is tied for third on the team in scoring (8.9 ppg).
> Temple has become one of the premier offensive rebounding teams in the nation, ranking eighth nationally in category (17.1). The Owls have also become one of the best ball control teams in the nation, ranking 11th in turnover margin (+7.7).

SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN
> Northwestern is coming off a 9-21 season, including a 2-16 record in Big Ten play.
> The Wildcats are 4-7 this season, having defeated Bradley on Sunday. Northwestern is 0-4 against Power conference opponents. Both Temple and the Wildcats hosted Georgetown, with the Hoyas coming out on top in both matchups.
> A trio of Wildcats standout as players to watch, Melannie Daley leads Northwestern in both points (12.3) and field goal percentage (.508). Calieigh Walsh averges 11.5 ppg and 5.8 rpg with Hailey Weaver contributing 11.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
> Joe McKoewn is in his 38th season as a Division I women's basketball coach and his 16th at Northwestern. He is 763-400 all time with a 254-226 record in Evanston.

 SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and Northwestern have met only once in 2021. The Wildcats won that meeting, 68-58.
> TU all-time leading scorer Mia Davis made headlines in the 2021 matchup, scoring her 2000th point while leading all scorers with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
