BY THE NUMBERS
- Riley hit the 20-point mark for the first time in his collegiate career and posted a personal best with eight rebounds. He also dished three assists.
- Stanford had a career game with 19 points and nine rebounds, both the highest totals in his young career. He added a block and a steal.
- Matteo Picarelli scored 11, connecting on 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. It was his fourth game this season with at least three treys. Hysier Miller posted 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Temple got on the board with a couple of threes from Picarelli and Miller before the first media timeout, but a 4-for-6 shooting start by the Hawks put the Owls in an early hole. Forcing turnovers helped keep TU in striking distance throughout the majority of the first half as SJU coughed the ball up eight times in the opening 14 minutes, six of them forced by Temple steals.
- Down by double digits a couple of times in the final five minutes of the stanza, the Owls offense started to click as after a tough run, Temple hit three of its last five shots from the floor before a late triple from the Hawks make the score 34-23 at intermission.
- SJU started the second half with four straight free throws before TU kicked into gear, going on a 13-2 run. Riley and Stanford carried the offense, scoring 11 of the points in the stretch, cutting the lead to 40-36 with 14:09 remaining.
- The teams traded baskets for the majority of the remainder of the game with the Hawks establishing the final margin at the line.
