Lacrosse Set to Face Off Against Delaware on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse (2-1) is set to travel to Newark, De., on Wednesday, Feb. 22 to face off against the Blue Hens (2-0). First draw is set for 4 p.m. at Delaware Stadium and will be broadcast on FloSports/Lacrosse TV.

The matchup between Temple and Delaware serves as the 38th time the teams' have met in program history, with an all-time record of 18-17. The Owls and the Blue Hens last met in 2022, where Delaware edged the Cherry and White, 11-10 at Howarth Field.

- The Owls enter the matchup with a 2-1 record, most recently posting a dominant 15-6 victory over George Washington. Belle Mastropietro headlined the day, netting six goals and adding two assists for a career best. With an eight-point performance, Mastropietro found her way onto the weekly honors, earning AAC Midfielder of the Week for her contributions.
- Mackenzie Roth proved to be a valuable helper, dishing out three assists and adding two goals for a five-point performance against the Colonials, advancing her assist total on the season to five to tie Camryn Zavacky as the team leader.
- Defender Katie Shallow picked up her second weekly award from the conference in 2023, being named to the Weekly Honor Roll after recording six draw controls and two caused turnovers. This performance follows a great first week for the junior, as she was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week after combining for nine ground balls and six caused turnovers in the 10-5 win over Vermont and 10-9 loss to Ohio State. This performance included an eight groundball, five caused turnover day at Ohio State, which proved to be her single game career-best in ground balls, while also tying the conference ground ball record.
- Sophomore Taylor Grollman has assumed the primary role of goalkeeper for the Owls, starting in all three competitions of 2023. The Severn, Md., native has recorded 17 saves on the season for a .446 save percentage and 7.00 GAA, which leads the conference in the GAA category.
- Julie Schickling trails just behind Roth and Mastropietro in the point category, tallying six. The senior had a breakout day at Ohio State, netting four of the Owls nine goals, which served as a single game career best for the attacker. Amelia Wright joins Schickling with six points, netting four goals of her own while dishing out two assists.
Scouting Delaware
- Delaware opened their season on Friday, Feb. 10, defeating Lehigh 13-11 at home, before welcoming Lafayette and earning the 16-12 win.
- 2022 CAA Rookie of the Year, Delany McDaniel leads the Blue Hens in the point category, with 10 points on two goals and eight assists, which included seven assists, one goal performance over Lafayette.
- Danielle Livernorse leads the team in the goal category, netting six, tallying three each in the Blue Hens two-game start.
- Delaware has showcased their depth on the offensive end of the field, with ten different student-athletes netting at least one goal this year, and nine with 2+.
- Defender Madison Hranicka, a 2022 All-CAA First Team selection and 2023 Preseason All-Conference honoree has shined on the defensive end for the Blue Hens, leading the team in both groundballs (7) and caused turnovers (7).
- Fifth year Mercy McCarthy has been the primary keeper for Delaware, recording 13 saves in 2023 for a .361 save percentage.
- The Blue Hens entered the season ranked fifth in the CAA preseason poll, after finishing the 2022 season 5-12 which included a 2-4 conference performance. Delaware advanced to the CAA tournament, but fell to first-seeded Towson, 12-8.
