Track & Field Set to Compete in AAC Indoor Championships

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's track and field team heads to Birmingham, Alabama this Friday as the Owls compete in the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. 18 athletes will be representing Temple in 13 events. Athletes who succeed in Friday's events will advance to the finals on Saturday. Both days will stream on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
> Temple showed out with its best meets of the year in the Fastrack National Invitational in New York City and the Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
> Pole vaulter Allie Riches set her third program record in four weeks, as well as a personal best with a mark of 4.05m (13.3 feet). Riches was one of two Owls to claim victory in an event, with the other being senior Tannkee Strachan the triple jump. She earned a mark of 12.63m (41.4 feet), nearly an entire meter in front of second place.
> Seven other Owls tied or set personal bests in the meets, setting Temple up well for this weekend.
Previewing the Owls - Friday
> Temple will kick off Friday with Fiona Carter in the Pentathlon at 9 am.
> The day picks up again at 12:25 with Laura Nicholson and Elvira Bredin in the mile.
> The sprint group will begin their day with Marissa White, Kwanda Knight, Chidumga Nkulume, and Christal Pommells in the 400m dash at 12:55. Isatu Shirek with be the lone Owl in the 60m hurdles at 1:35. At 1:55 Chelby Elam and Madison Trout will run in the 60m dash.
> On the field side, Strachan and Allyson Metzger will jump in the long jump at 2:00. An hour later, Riches will look to set another school record in the pole vault.
> Also at 3:00, four Owls Trout, Elam, Christal Pommells, and Nkulume will run in the 200m dash.
> Cat Shontz will run in the 5000m at 3:30, and finally in the Distance Medley Relay Bredin, White, Frowijn, and Nicholson will compete at 5.

> A strong showing in the conference meet could net individual Owls a chance to compete at Indoor Nationals in Albuquerque, N.M. on March 10 and 11.
