Nilson Inks Monk to 2023 Signing Class

PHILADELPHIA - On Wednesday, Temple head gymnastics coach Josh Nilson announced the signing of Payton Monk to the Class of 2023 signing class.
Monk joins Nilson’s 2023 class that already includes Gabby Linden, Skylar Shafran, Gianna Silva, Maya Keller, Megan White, and Amelia Budd.
Payton has been a Level 10 gymnast since 2021 and trains at Northeast Gymnastics Academy in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. In her first season as an L10, Payton qualified for the Junior Olympic Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla. After placing fifth in the all-around and second on the floor at the Region 7 Championships, the Pennsylvania native had a strong showing at the JO event where she earned a top-15 finish on the floor exercise.
In 2022, Payton finished fifth in the all-around and fourth in the floor exercise at the Level 10 State Championships. There she moved on to the Region 7 Championships, placing sixth place on floor. At the 2022 Christmas on the Chesapeake meet, she earned a personal-best score of 9.8 in the floor exercise, giving her first place for the second time of three as an L10.
Away from the gym, Payton enjoys photography, painting, skiing, and volunteers her time to community service each year. In the classroom, Monk has been an exceptional student at Wyoming Seminary, earning dean’s list honors in each of the last three years, while adding a 4.0 for her first term during her senior year in 2022.
