Women’s Basketball Hosts Cincinnati for Cherry Out

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (10-13, 5-6 AAC) returns to Liacouras Center Saturday for a rematch against the Cincinnati Bearcats (8-15, 1-9 AAC). It is Cherry Out Night for Temple. Fans are encouraged to wear Cherry, and free t-shirts will be given out to the first 150 fans.

> Postgame autographs: The team will be signing autographs after the game.
> Stars of Honor: Local elementary school children will be recognized on the court at halftime for their success in the classroom.

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 52 @ East Carolina 67
> Temple dropped its second straight, falling on the road to East Carolina.
> The Owls' led 45-42 after three quarters of basketball, but a 25-7 fourth quarter gave the victory to the Pirates.
> Forward Brittany Garner was a headliner for the Owls with eight points and a season-high nine rebounds.

THE OWLS
> Aleah Nelson sits at sixth in the American in scoring (15.5 ppg) and third in assists (4.1 apg). She has scored in double-figures in each of the last seven games. The point guard leads the conference in minutes per game with 37.
> Tiarra East ranks second on the team in scoring (11.6 ppg) and leads the Owls in rebounding (6.1 rpg). East has now seen double-figures in five straight games. East went 4-5 from the line against ECU. She is fifth in the conference in free throw shooting (.802).
> Forward Caranda Perea followed up a career-high 13 rebounds last Saturday against Houston with another strong day on the glass. The sophomore grabbed eight rebounds against ECU. Perea leads the team in rebounds over the last six contests, with 6.3 per game.
> Guards Nelson and Gary have combined for 104 three-pointers this season. The two have now surpassed the entire team from last season (103).

SCOUTING CINCINNATI
> Cincinnati has had a pair of sub-.500 seasons the last couple years. In 2020-21, the Bearcats were 8-16, with an 11-17 record following in 2021-22. Last season, Cincinnati began the season with four straight losses in conference and ended the conference slate losing six out of their last seven games.
> This season has not gone as planned for the Bearcats. The team sits at 8-15 with just one victory in conference. The team has been playing better as of late, defeating Tulane 53-50 on the road and falling to UCF by only three in the last week.
> Jillian Hayes is a player to watch for Cincinnati, averaging 12.9 ppg (9th in the conference) and 8.4 rpg (4th in the conference). Hayes also ranks second in the conference in blocks (1.5 bpg).
> Michelle Clark-Heard leads the Cincinnati program in her fifth season and 13th as an NCAA head coach. Clark-Heard is 73-69 during her time with the Bearcats and 251-149 overall. Prior to her time at Cincinnati, she held the head coaching position at Western Kentucky where she took the team to four NCAA tournaments in six years.

 SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and Cincinnati have played each other every season since Temple joined the AAC in 2013. This will be the Owls' last regular season game against Cincinnati before the Bearcats depart the conference.
> TU is 11-6 against the Bearcats. Temple has won the last four meetings versus Cincinnati.
> Last time the two met, Temple's Nelson had one of her best games of the season as she battled her former school, scoring 20 points and shooting 8-11 from the field. East also put up a double-double.
