Lacrosse Set to Open 2023 Campaign with Two Game Weekend

PHILADELPHIA – Temple lacrosse is set to open the 2023 season on Friday, Feb. 10 as they host the Vermont Catamounts at 3 p.m. Just two days later, the Owls will hit the road, traveling to Columbus, OH., on Sunday, Feb. 12 to face off against Big Ten competitor, Ohio State at 12 p.m. The home opener will be livestreamed on ESPN+ from Howarth Field, while the Ohio State matchup will be livestreamed on the Big Ten Plus Network.

- The Owls open the season receiving votes in the IL Women/IWLCA Preseason Poll and the Nike/USA Lacrosse Preseason Poll.
- On an individual level, two players earned preseason recognition from the conference in seniors Belle Mastropietro and Mackenzie Roth. Mastropietro, who was the AAC Midfielder of the Year and an Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American at the conclusion of the 2022 season continued to rack up the awards, being tabbed Preseason Midfielder of the Year along with earning a spot on the Preseason All-Conference squad.
- Roth, who was a 2022 First Team All-Conference selection was named to the Preseason All-Conference team after sitting at second in the conference in the assist per game category with 2.12 in 2022.
- Of the eight Owls who received honors from the AAC last year, six of them return for the Cherry and White. Mastropietro and Roth were named to the first team, while Riley McGowan, Maeve Tobin, Katie Shallow and Maddie Barber earned second team honors.
- The squad remains under the guidance of long-time head coach, Bonnie Rosen, as she enters her 17th season at the helm of the program.

- Vermont enters the season as the preseason favorite in the America East standings after clinching their first ever America East Championship in 2022 in a 12-11 win over first-seeded Albany.
- The Catamounts saw two student-athletes earn Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-America honors in Carolyn Carrera and Ava Vasile. Carrera returns in 2023 for her fifth year, while Vasile enters her senior season.
- Four of the five Catamounts who earned honors from the America East Conference will return for the 2023 season, in Vasile (First Team), Carrera (First Team), Camille Argentieri (Second Team) and Kendall Traveis (All-Rookie).
- The Catamounts are led by Sarah Dalton Graddock, who enters her 7th year as head coach of the program.
- The matchup between the Owls and the Catamounts serves as the first time the teams' have met in program history.
- Ohio State enters the season ranked sixth in the highly competitive Big Ten conference standings, falling behind powerhouse programs Maryland, Northwestern, Rutgers, Michigan and Johns Hopkins, each of whom ranked in the Top 25 of the ILWomen/IWLCA Preseason Poll. The Buckeyes were one of five teams, alongside Temple, who received votes in this poll.
- Chloe Johnson, Nicole Ferrara and Ava Keethler enter the season on the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch List. Johnson, Ferrara, and Keethler were all tabbed 2022 Second Team All-Conference selections, while Johnson also earned IL Women and USA Lacrosse Magazine Honorable Mention All-America honors.
- The Buckeyes are set to open their season on Friday, Feb. 10 against Robert Morris before welcoming Temple on the 12th for their second consecutive home matchup.
- Last year, the Buckeyes posted a 9-7 record, which included a 2-4 conference performance, earning wins over Penn State and Michigan in conference play.
- The matchup between the Owls and the Buckeyes serves as the third time the teams' have met in program history, with the last competition occurring 22 years ago. The Owls remain undefeated against Ohio State, posting a 2-0 record, which included a 23-2 win in 1997 and a 15-7 win in 2001.
