5.31.23 | Women's Track and Field
PHILADELPHIA – Following an outstanding season in the classroom, six members of the Temple cross country and track & field programs have been named to the 2023 Academic All-District NCAA Division I team, selected by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). Of the six, three are members of the men's cross country team, two are members of the Temple track & field program, and one is a member of both women's track & field and cross country teams.
Christian Fitch, Erik Kain, and Graham Thomas were named to the men's track & field/cross country teams. The three played a role in helping the team achieve a 3.73 GPA in the spring, the highest of any team in Temple's athletic department. Kain was also named a member of Temple's Trustee Ten, celebrating the top ten athletes in terms of GPA with at least 60 credits earned.
Allyson Metzger, Laura Nicholson, and Tannneke Strachan were named to the women's track & field/cross country teams. Metzger just completed her sophomore season as a long jumper for the Cherry & White. She set a personal best in the event with a mark of 5.35m at the Knights Invitational to open the 2023 outdoor season.
Fresh off of the 1500m quarterfinals, Nicholson just completed one of the best seasons in recent memory for the Owls. The senior set a new school record for the 1500m (4:15.89) and earned a gold medal in the event at the AAC Outdoor Championships. She also medaled in the 800m at outdoors and the mile at indoors. Strachan earns all-district to conclude a Temple career that saw her place first in 12 triple jump events, as well as set program benchmarks in for both indoor and outdoor triple jump last season. She earned bronze at the 2022 AAC Outdoor Championships and competed in the NCAA East Preliminary.
