Women's Rowing Announces Year-End Awards

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple Women's Rowing team held its annual year-end awards ceremony on the Temple campus on Saturday, May 6.
The ceremony included eight awards, spanning a variety of aspects from this year's rowing season. The Owls held the ceremony on the weekend before the Dad Vail Regatta and AAC Championships.
Newcomer of the Year: Lauren Sobieski and Olivia Elliott
The Newcomer of the Year award is given to varsity team members who made a significant impact and contribution in their first year on the team.
Novice of the Year: Grace McGarry
The Novice of the Year award is given to a novice member who made a significant impact and contribution in their first year as a novice on the team.
Most Improved: Jordan Howe
The Most Improved award is presented to the athlete who dedicated herself to achieving significant personal development and athletic improvement.
TOGETHER Award: Maggie Page
The TOGETHER Award is bestowed upon the athlete who best lives out the team values: Teamwork, Ownership, Gratitude & Joy, Every Day Effort, Trust, Hunger, Excellence, Respect.
Teammate of the Year: Riley Gorman
The Teammate of the Year award is nominated by the team and recognizes the athlete who best exemplifies a "team first" mentality and has demonstrated selflessness, commitment, support, and dedication to the team and her teammates.
Athlete of the Year: Gemma Wollenschlaeger
The Athlete of the Year award is nominated by the coaching staff, with input from the team's leadership group. The athlete must be in at least her second year on the team and have raced in AAC boats for a minimum of 50% of the spring races. The award is given to an athlete who has performed with consistent dedication and commitment throughout the year, as well as athletic excellence that embodies what it means to be a member of the Temple Women's Rowing team.
Iron Oar: Niamh Kiely
The Iron Oar is a recognition of performance in the weight room.
Lenfest Leadership Award: Maddie Hillis
The Lenfest Leadership Award is named in honor of Gerry and Marguerite Lenfest, who are leaders in the Philadelphia and Temple communities and who left an indelible mark on the Temple Women's Rowing team. The award is given to the athlete who has performed beyond expectations, with courage, loyalty, and dedication to the idea of making a positive impact on the team. The award is not given out annually, but saved for an athlete who is a deserving leader on the team and goes above and beyond to impact Temple Women's Rowing in a positive way.
