Calderaro, Frumholz, and Mastropietro Named AAC Sport Scholar-Athletes

PHILADELPHIA - Three Owls have been named as American Athletic Conference Sport Scholar-Athletes of the Year, with Margherita Calderaro (At-Large), Thibault Frumholz (Men's Tennis), and Belle Mastropietro (Lacrosse) being tabbed.
To be named a Sport Scholar-Athlete of the Year, student-athletes must participate in an AAC sponsored sport, maintain excellent athletic credentials and outstanding athletic performance, and attained a minimum of senior standing. The At-Large winner must compete in a sport not sponsored by the league.
Calderaro, a neuroscience major, completed her senior season with the Owls' fencing team in the spring, going 52-24 overall and finishing 17th at the NCAA regionals. The Rome, Italy native is a two-time NIWFA Individual Epee Title holder with a career record of 152-62. Additionally, Calderaro, a two-time NCAA Championships qualifier set the program record in 2021 with the highest epee finish at NCAA competition, placing sixth. She was named to the 2023 CSC Academic All-District At-Large NCAA Division I team and to the PhillySIDA Academic All-Area team.
Frumholz, a graduate student studying mechanical engineering, and his partner Leo Raquin ended the2022-23 season with a No. 9 ranking in the Atlantic region. The duo's 17 wins ranked third most in Owls' single-season history and earned their highest ITA national season ranking of No 81 on April 4. Frumholz won combined 84 matches between dual singles and doubles, placing him in a tie for fifth all-time in school history. His 40 singles wins are tied for sixth all-time in school history and his 44 doubles are fifth all-time. The Strasbourg, France native is a three-time ITA Scholar Athlete, a two-time AAC All-Academic Team and PhillySIDA Academic All-Area honoree.
Mastropietro, who graduated from Temple's School of Public Health with a degree in Exercise Science, has played and started in all 59 games of her career, amassing 204 career points on 146 goals and 58 assists. Her 204 points ranks eighth all-time in program history. Where the midfielder has truly stood out is the draw control. The Springfield, Pa., native holds both the single season draw control record (105) and the all-time draw control record (286) at Temple. Throughout her career, she has amassed a multitude of awards at conference, regional and national level. She is a three-time First Team All-Conference selection, two-time AAC Preseason Midfielder of the Year, two-time AAC Midfielder of the Year, First Team All East Coast Athletic Conference, two-time IWLCA Second Team All-Region, Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American, amongst many other weekly awards.
