Women's Soccer to Play First Away Game at Loyola on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA- Temple women's soccer is ready to go for round two, facing Patriot League competitor, Loyola, in its second game of the season on Sunday, Aug. 20. The match is set for 6 p.m. at the Ridley Athletic Complex and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.  
 
This match marks the second of eight non-conference opponents, including four City Six teams, the most Temple has faced in one season since 2007. The Owls still have yet to compete against five out of six of the new American Atlantic Conference members.  Temple's 2023 schedule is packed with home appearances, with 10 matches taking place at Temple Sports Complex. Attendance is free to all fans. 

Scouting Temple
- The Owls fell to William and Mary in the season opener on Thursday night. Jessica Carrieri led both teams in shots with four. In the first fifteen minutes of the first half, Carrieri fired off two shots. In goal, Tamsin Bynoe saved three shots in the first half. The goal by William & Mary in the first half did not deter the Owls from starting strong in the second half with the first three shot attempts. 
- Prior to yesterday's game, head coach Nick Bochette named Nicole Sweeney, Brooke Kane, and Phoebe Hollin captains for the 2023 season. 
- Sweeney played 69 minutes in the season opener. A native of San Jose, Calif., Sweeney played four years of collegiate soccer as a forward at Santa Clara University. 
- Kane, a frequent four year starter on the backline for the Owls, clocked in 90 minutes against the Tribe. As a Philadelphia native, Kane has appeared on the pitch for 36 games in her collegiate career.  
- Hollin, a senior forward from Oldham, England, placed one shot in her 90 minutes on the pitch in yesterday's match. Throughout her three years at Temple, Hollin has assisted three goals and earned 31 game points.  

Scouting Loyola 
- The Greyhounds enter the 2023 season with a predicted conference standing of sixth place, as voted on by the Patriot League coaches' in the preseason poll. The conference coaches also voted two Greyhound players, Baylee DeSmit and Alex Searing, to the Patriot League Preseason All-League Team. DeSmit was named 1st Team All-Patriot League in 2022 and 2nd Team All-Patriot League in 2021. Searing was named 2nd Team All-Patriot League in 2022 and 3rd Team All-Patriot League in 2021.  
-The Greyhounds also enter the 2023 season with a new face, as Bristol Pizzuto joins the Loyola coaching staff as second-assistant coach. The position serves as Pizzuto's first assistant coaching stint, after spending the 2022 season as a graudate assistant at DeSales University. 
- Loyola posted a 6-8-4 record in 2022, which included a 3-4-2 conference performance. The Greyhounds started off the 2023 season with a 4-1 loss at Dayton in their season opener. 
- Baylee DeSmit, the team's leading scorer and the league leader in points, second in assists, goals, and shots on goal in 2022, returns as a junior for the Greyhounds. DeSmit notched six goals and seven assists to end the season with 19 points. The Greyhounds will continue to look to Paige Sim as their starting goalkeeper. Sim recorded 61 saves in her 1595 minutes of playing time in 2022, with a save percentage of 72.6%.

- This is the third game between the two teams, with the Owls topping the Greyhounds in both matches.
