8.8.23 | Men's Golf
PHILADELPHIA – Temple Golf coach Brian Quinn announced the signing of four incoming golfers, three transfers, Aidan Emmerich (Michigan State), Jake Haberstumpf (Moravian) and Michael Walsh (Lafayette), and one freshman, Ben Saggers (Bishop Shanahan HS) to his 2023-24 Owls squad.
"Aidan, Michael and Jake are very talented golfers, who bring experience having already competed at the Division I level while Ben is an incoming freshman with tremendous skill," said Quinn. "With the addition of these four fine young men to our program, we have added provided strength and talent to what has become a deep roster."
Emmerich, a native of Swampscott, Mass. (St. Mary's), played just one season for the Spartans. During the 2022-23 campaign, he competed in two events, averaging 73.17 strokes over six rounds. Prior to Michigan State, Emmerich was an All-Boston Globe and Boston Herald selection all four years of high school career and set a conference championship record when he fired an 8-under par 61 to win his third-straight Catholic Central League title in the fall of 2021. A two-time qualifier for the U.S. Junior Amateur (2021-22), he was medalist in the Massachusetts State Junior twice.
Walsh, who competed the last two seasons at Lafayette, posted eleven Top 20 finishes for the Leopards with his best being a one-under 215 at the 2021 Georgia State Invitational where he helped his team to a second-place finish. A standout performer at Rice Memorial High, the Shelburne, Vt. Native was a four-time All-State selection and a two-time State Champion. Last month he shot a four-under 280 at the 2023 Vermont State Amateur Championship to finish in second place. He also won the 2019 Vermont Junior Stroke Play title.
Haberstumpf, who played his freshman season at Moravian in 2022-23, led the Greyhounds with a 73.11 stroke average. The Bethlehem, Pa. native (Freedom HS) was a four-time Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week while also earning spots on the all-Conference and all-Region teams. Eight of his 19 rounds were at or under par in his rookie season with four being in the 60s.
Saggers, a native of West Chester, Pa., is coming off a stellar high school career where he was a two-time First Team All-Area selection. The two-time Bishop Shanahan team captain was the runner-up at the 2023 Jock MacKenzie Memorial while placing third at the Delaware Junior Championship. He also earned a Top 10 finish at the Christman Cup and a third place finish at the Delaware Junior Championship.
