Temple Volleyball Pulls Out Victory in Five Sets Over Princeton

Temple improves to 2-0 in five-set matches in 2023
PHILADELPHIA – Behind a combined 30 kills from Avery Luoma and Taylor Davenport, the Temple Owls pulled out their second five-set win of the season on Wednesday against the Princeton Tigers, 25-23, 25-23, 14-25, 22-25, 15-10.
The Owls improved to 7-2 overall on the season while the Tigers dropped to 2-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Against her former team, the graduate transfer Luoma earned her ninth career double-double with season-high 15 kills and 14 digs.
- Davenport matched Luoma for the Temple-high of 15 kills. It was the sixth time in seven matches, the Columbia, S.C. native tallied a double-figure kill match.
- Fellow graduate transfer Olivia Vance had a breakout game with 11 kills.
- The Owls bookended the match with a team hitting percentage above .300. Temple hit .310 in the first set and exploded to hit .556 in the final set.
- Tigers' Lucia Scalamandre led the match with 19 kills.
SET 1 (TU 25, PRIN 23)
- Davenport (6) and Luoma (6) combined for 12 kills in the first set with Davenport hitting .455 and Luoma hitting at .545 clip.
- With the set tied at 16-16, Davenport connected on two kills in a three-point span, helping the Owls begin to pull away from the Tigers to win the first set. Four of the senior's six kills over the final 16 kills.
SET 2 (TU 25, PRIN 23)
- After back-to-back service aces from Davenport that cut into a 15-10 Tigers' advantage, Princeton's Valerie Nutakor dropped three consecutive kills of her five in the set.
- Temple made its comeback, cutting the Princeton lead down to one (20-19), forcing Princeton into a timeout. During the run, the Tigers had two unforced errors, while Vance collected her only kill in the set and Jelena Prolic picked up her first of two service aces on the night.
- The Owls pulled out the set win with a kill by Luoma, a Davenport kill, and service ace from freshman setter Ava Blascziek.
SET 3 (TU 14, PRIN 25)
- Princeton out hit Temple in set three, .333 to .053.
- Lucia Scalamandre had a set-high three blocks in the set victory.
- Scalamandre and Maya Satchell had three kills apiece, with each Tigers' attacker hitting .429 or better.
- After the Owls scored on a kill by Taylor Davenport, Scalamandre blocked her former teammate Luoma on back-to-back points, starting a run of nine consecutive unanswered points.
SET 4 (TU 22, PRIN 25)
- Satchell and Scalamandre helped the Tigers pull out the set win, combining for eight kills.
- On the defensive side, the Tigers had five players totaling six blocks.
- With Sydney Draper at the service line for Princeton, the orange and black squad earned five points. Individually, Draper had a set-high two aces during the fourth set win.
SET 5 (TU 15, PRIN 10)
- With the set slated at 10-9, the Owls scored five the final six points, including kills from Davenport and Vance.
- Samantha Jo Mikosky, Vance, Chelci Banks, Davenport, and Luoma all had two kills apiece, totaling 10 points the team's 15.
