Volleyball on the Road at Villanova Classic

Temple will play Friday and Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple volleyball team looks to improve on its 7-2 start to the season as they travel up the road to the Villanova Classic as they take on a pair of Northeast Conference opponents in Saint Francis (Pa.) and Sacred Heart. On Friday, the Owls will take on the Red Flash at 4:30 p.m. and then play the Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. just 24 hours later. Both matches will be available on the FloSports app.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Cherry and White knocked off Princeton in McGonigle Hall on Wednesday night, 25-23, 25-23, 14-25, 22-25,15-10, improving their over record to 7-2. In the match, graduate transfer Avery Luoma earned her second-career Owls' double-double and ninth overall. On the night, Luoma tied for a team-high and season-high 15 kills and added 14 digs. Fellow grad transfer Olivia Vance had a breakout game, coming up with a season-high 11 kills. Leading Temple hitter, Taylor Davenport had another strong outing as she had 15 kills, marking the eighth time in nine matches to reach double-digit kills.

Going into this weekend, Davenport senior is ranked second in the AAC and 14th in the NCAA with 4.48 kills per set. Also, the TU standout is currently second in the conference with 5.19 points per set and 15th in the nation.
 
COUNTING DOWN TO 1,000
Davenport is one of two Owls in reach of the elusive 1,000 career-kills mark. In Temple volleyball history just 21 players that have played their entire career with Temple have reached the prestigious mark. Going into this weekend's set of matches Davenport is currently at 842 kills for her career. Fellow Owl, Olivia Vance is at 802 career kills between her four seasons with Toledo and her first year with Temple.

Temple will start American Athletic Conference play on Wednesday Sept. 20 against Tulsa at home in McGonigle Hall. The first serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the match will be available on the ESPN+ app.
