Volleyball Wins Second Straight with Victory Over Saint Francis on Friday

VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Temple volleyball team improved to 8-2 overall on Friday with its second straight win as they knocked off the Saint Francis Red Flash, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15, 25-15, at the Villanova Classic behind a career day from middle blocker Chelci Banks. Banks set her personal-best with 11 kills and tied her career-high with seven blocks in the four-set victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Along with Banks, senior Taylor Davenport tied the match-high with Saint Francis' Skye Eicher with 14 kills.
- Graduate transfer Olivia Banks had a strong showing with nine kills and three blocks.
- Banks (.421), Davenport (.312), and Vance (.263) were the only Owls to hit over .100 in the match.
- Behind 11 team blocks, Temple forced the Red Flash into a .074 hitting percentage for the match.
- Five of the six Cherry and White players earned three blocks or more in the win, including Vance (3), Jelena Prolic (3), Ava Blascziek (3), Davenport (4) and Banks (7).
SET 1 ( TU 25, SFU 22)
- With the Red Flash scoring first in the match, Temple scored four straight point with kills from Banks, Prolic, and graduate transfer Avery Luoma. Luoma capped off the run with her only service ace of the match.
- Temple continued to hold onto the lead until SFU scored on three consecutive points and forced Temple into its first timeout of the set. Saint Francis got a kill from Eicher and Korrin Burns, and a service ace from Alexandria Sappia to assist in the run that gave their team a 16-14 advantage.
- With a set score of 18-16 in favor of Saint Francis, Temple scored four of the next five points to retake a 20-19 lead.
- Temple finished off the set on a 3-0 run with the help of Vance connecting on two of her three kills in the period.
SET 2 (TU 20, SFU 25)
- The Owls couldn't get over the hump in the second set, only being able to tie the score on three occasions.
- Saint Francis got off to 6-2 advantage before the Owls clawed back to tie the score 7-7. SFU curbed the Owls momentum as it answered by scoring four of the next five points.
- Temple found themselves tied once again with the Red Flash, 13-13, but yet again Saint Francis answered as it got three straight kills from Eicher, Burns, and Kori McClure.
- Eicher tallied five of her 14 kills in set two.
SET 3 (TU 25, SFU 15)
- TU struggled out of the gate in set three, down 3-0 after three serves. The Cherry and White found themselves reeling of eight of the next 10 points, forcing the Red Flash into its first timeout.
- After the Red Flash used their second timeout of the set, Davenport (3) and Banks (2) teamed to combine for five kills.
- The Columbia, S.C. native Davenpot caught fire with a .625 hitting percentage and five of her 14 kills. Out of the middle blocker position, Banks was offensive as she had nine total attacks with four kills.
SET 4 (TU 25, SFU 15)
- Just like the third set, the Red Flash clinged to an early lead before TU turned the momentum and tied the set a 9-9.
- Over next three points, sophomore Samantha Jo Mikosky connected with her only two kills in the match, giving her team a 11-10 lead.
- Davenport had a set-high four kills in the final stanza as she hit .375, while Banks hit .600 with three kills.
- The Owls' three team blocks forced Saint Francis to a .000 hitting percentage in the set, while both Banks and Davenport matched one another with two blocks.
