Volleyball Earns 3-1 Victory over FAU, Improves to 10-3 on Season

Owls move to 1-1 in AAC play
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Temple Owls' volleyball team picked up its 10th of the season with a four-set, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls on Saturday in Baldwin Arena. The upperclassmen trio of Taylor Davenport (15), Avery Luoma (13), and Olivia Vance (11) led Temple as they combined for 39 kills.
The Cherry and White improved to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while FAU falls to 8-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Columbia, S.C. native Davenport led all hitters with 15 kills, while Luoma hit .379 on 25 attempts and Vance hit .360 on 29 attempts.
- Middle blockers Chelci Banks and Samantha Jo Mikosky pitched in on the offensive side with seven and six kills, respectively.
- Temple had a trio of players with double-digit digs, including a match-high 17 from Falanika Danielson, 13 from Jelena Prolic, and 11 from Nalani McBride.
- For FAU, Arianna Beckham had a team-high 14 kills, while Romina Cornelio had 12, and Katelynn Robine added 10.
SET 1 (TU 25, FAU 20)
- Robine helped Florida Atlantic jump out to a quick 3-0 advantage with two of her five kills in the set.
- Temple turned around the momentum in its favor by scoring four of the next five points to tie the score, 4-4, and then the two teams traded the next 10 points before junior libero Falanika Danielson's serve gave Temple a 12-9 lead, forcing the opposition into a timeout.
- Out of the FAU timeout, Danielson added two more points to extend the lead to five, 14-9, before the home team broke her serve.
- With a padded lead, TU was able to hold off Florida Atlantic down the stretch for the set victory, with Davenport adding four of her five kills over the last nine Temple points.
SET 2 (TU 23, FAU 25)
- Both teams struggled offensively in the second set as FAU held Temple to .135 hitting percentage, while FAU hit .098.
- Florida Atlantic surged to a 6-1 lead by scoring five straight points behind a service ace from Noelle Stephens and kills from Beckham and Valeria Rosado.
- Later in the set, Robine connected with back-to-back putaways, her only kills of the stanza.
- Temple fought their way back to a tie at 19 all, but FAU eventually put TU away to the match at 1-1.
SET 3 (TU 25, FAU 17)
- Temple would go onto the fourth set, as it remained tight throughout the first of half, when there were four ties over the first 10 points of play.
- Temple took a 19-15 lead during a stretch when Davenport scored two of her three kills.
- Temple closed out the third set on a 4-0 run, bookended with an ace from setter Patrycja Zielinska and Davenport's third kill.
- Temple out hit FAU by the tune of .316 - .081.
SET 4 (TU 25, FAU 22)
- Luoma hit a 1.000 on five attempts, as she and Davenport matched each other in the final set with five kills apiece.
- With the scored tied at 6-6, FAU scored seven of 10 points to jump ahead 13-9, as it got kills from Rosado, Cornelio, and Kaila Ru.
- Out of the visitor's timeout, Temple reversed course and scored seven of the next 10 points to tie the score 16-16. Davenport led the Cherry and White during the run with a pair of kills, while Vance, Banks, and Jelena Prolic also added kills.
- TU took the lead out of the timeout, while doubling up FAU on the final 12 points and never looked back for the set victory.
