Volleyball Falls on Day 2 at FAU in Four Sets

Owls fall 10-4 overall and 1-2 in AAC play
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Behind the 16 kills from Valeria Rosado, the Florida Atlantic Owls knocked off the Temple Owls in Baldwin Arena on Sunday by the score 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 19-25.
The Cherry and White fall to 10-4 overall and 1-2 in American Athletic Conference play, while FAU improves to 9-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Throughout the four sets, FAU held Temple to a .176 hitting percentage with the help of 10 team blocks.
- Each of the six FAU players to record a kill in the match had at least two.
- Though Temple had six service aces in the match, Florida Atlantic outpaced the opposition with eight.
- In each of the three set wins for FAU, the team was able to earn a better side out percentage that of Temple's.
- Olivia Vance led Temple with her second straight double-digit match. The Saline, Mich. native had had 13 kills on 30 total attacks with just two errors.
SET 1 (TU 21, FAU 25)
- After FAU won the first point of the game, Temple rallied off five straight points with a pair of kills from senior Taylor Davenport and one from junior Chelci Banks.
- The two squads traded the next three points, but FAU took the advantage (7-6) with four straight points of its own, forcing a pair of attack errors on Temple.
- Both sides traded the lead on a handful occasions throughout the first set, but Florida Atlantic took the lead, 18-17, and never let go.
- In the first set, there were 11 ties and six lead changes with no lead extended by more than two points over the first 36 points.
SET 2 (TU 23, FAU 25)
- Temple was held to a .111 hitting percentage in the second set, while FAU hit .300 as a team. Four FAU players hit. 300 in the second set, including Arriana Beckham at .300 with four kills on eight attempts.
- Much like the first set, there were 11 ties and four lead changes.
- FAU doubled up Temple at the net with four team blocks, compared to Temple's two.
- FAU was forced to use a time out as Temple jumped out to a 8-5 lead. Both Davenport and Vance led Temple in the opening stretch with a pair of kills.
- Temple continued to hold onto the smallest of leads before FAU took its second lead of the set. Florida Atlantic forced three straight hitting errors to go ahead by the score of 14-11.
- The Cherry and White regrouped to take the advantage, 20-17, but yet again FAU pulled away for the win. During the final stretch Romina Cornelio served FAU to four straight points on back-to-back service aces.
SET 3 (TU 25, FAU 19)
- The two teams traded the first 10 points to begin the third set, but Temple pulled away and never looked back.
- Notably, Davenport put Temple ahead for good in the set, 22-13 as she served TU to five consecutive points with back-to-back service aces.
- Graduate transfer Avery Luoma led the Cherry and White with a .556 average, and five kills on nine attempts.
- Temple was able to side out FAU to the tune of 60 percent in the third set victory.
SET 4 (TU 19, FAU 25)
- Just like the first three sets, Temple had the advantage early, but Rosado and the FAU scored six straight points to take the lead 8-5. Rosado's serve had Temple out of system, forcing TU into four straight errors.
- FAU pulled away for the set win as it extended its lead to six points late in the set.
- Florida Atlantic's Beckham had a set-high five kills, while Katelyn Robine pitched in with four kills.
