PHILADELPHIA — Temple Women's Rowing athlete Gemma Wollenschlaeger was selected to compete in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, USRowing announced today.
Wollenschlaeger, a junior at Temple, was announced as a member of the United States PR3 mixed four with coxswain team. She will compete with the national team at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France, which begin on August 28 and end on September 8.
"I am beyond excited and grateful to have this awesome opportunity to compete for Team USA at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games," Wollenschlaeger said. "Big shoutout to all my coaches that have helped me get to this point and an even bigger shoutout to my current coaches and teammates, as this would not have been possible without your support."
This summer, Wollenschlaeger earned a spot with the US Para Rowing roster that competed in the 2023 World Rowing Championships. Competing in the PR3 mixed double sculls, Wollenschlaeger and teammate Todd Vogt won the 2023 Para Rowing Regatta to Paris and took home a silver medal at the 2023 World Rowing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
After a strong performance by the United States at the World Rowing Championships, Wollenschlaeger took part in the nation's selection camp process, which came to a close in Sarasota, Florida this past weekend. She and the six other athletes selected are all first-time Paralympians. Wollenschlaeger will compete alongside Ben Washburne (Williams College), Alex Flynn (Tufts University), Skylar Dahl (University of Virginia), and coxswain Emilie Eldracher (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
Wollenschlaeger carries an impressive resume through her time as an athlete at Temple, most recently earning a spot on the American Athletic Conference First-Team All-Conference lineup in 2023. She and the Owls Varsity 8 earned a third-place finish at the conference championships, marking the first time a Temple Varsity 8 has medaled at conference since 2016.
