Women’s Basketball Opens Road Conference Play at Tulsa

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (7-7, 1-1 AAC) opens American Athletic Conference road play this weekend as the Owls head out to Tulsa (12-3, 2-0 AAC). This game will be the first time Temple has left the city of Philadelphia for over a month. Tip-off will be at 3 p.m. EST, the game will air on ESPN+ and The Varsity Network App.

LAST TIME OUT: North Texas 74 @ Temple 63
> Temple dropped its first game of 2024 against the North Texas Mean Green.
> North Texas got out to a nine-point lead by halftime and took a double-digit lead by the end of the third quarter. Temple cut the lead to single digits in the fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback effort.
> Tiarra East (21 points) and Aleah Nelson (20 points) became the first pair of Owls to score 20 or more points in a game since January of 2023. East also set a new single season high for field goals made in a game this season with nine.

THE OWLS
> Temple has dominated the offensive glass, ranking 5th in the nation in rebounding on that end of the court (17.4 orpg). The Owls have also moved up the charts in turnover margin, ranking 9th nationally in the category (+8.14), up from 12th last week. The team leads in the American in turnovers per game (12.9) and assist to turnover ratio (+1.14).
> Nelson continues to rank second in the AAC in assists per game (4.8). She is scoring 11.9 points per contest. The guard ranks 12th in Division I among active players in assists with 522, four behind Jaz Shelby of Nebraska. She is one of only six players in Division I with at least 500 assists and 1400 points. In the last three games, she is averaging 16.1 ppg.
> East has led Temple in scoring since early December with 12.6 ppg. The wing has now scored in double figures in eight straight games, averaging 15.0 points during that stretch. In her last four games she in pulling down 5.3 rpg. She is one of only eight players in the AAC who has scored at least 20 points three times.
> Tucker has recorded a double-double in three of the last five games, and in double-figures six of the seven games. Her 7.4 rebounds per game check in at 6th in the American. The forward is 3rd on the team in scoring (9.8 ppg). Tucker's four double-doubles on the season rank 3rd in the American.

SCOUTING TULSA
> Tulsa has been experiencing a resurgence in the last two years, with back-to-back 17 win seasons after six straight losing campaigns. Last year, The Golden Hurricane surged to a 15-3 start before dropping 10 of its last 12.
> This season Tulsa is once again off to a tremendous start, standing at a 12-3 record and 2-0 in conference. The team has a 2-2 record against top flight competition, with wins against Clemson and Florida and losses to Mississippi State and TCU.
> Temira Poindexter and Delanie Crawford are the drivers for Tulsa. With Poindexter averaging 20.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Crawford is scoring 17.5 and pulling down 6.5 rebounds per game.
> Angie Nelp leads Tulsa in her third season. She previously spent several seasons on the coaching staff at Arizona State. Nelp has engineered a staggering turnaround in her three seasons in Tulsa. She has a 48-27 record, Tulsa's best run of seasons in nearly 20 years.

 SERIES HISTORY
> Temple and Tulsa have met every season since the Owls joined the American in 2013.
> TU is 10-4 against the Golden Hurricane. Temple has won three of the last four meetings.
> Last time the two met, Tulsa claimed its first win in the series since 2020. Tarriyonna Gary scored 19 points, including four fourth quarter threes.
