Volleyball’s Jones Earns Fourth Double-Double of Season in Match Versus UAB

PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Sydney Jones earned her fourth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 13 digs on Friday night in a 21-25, 19-25, 22-25 loss to UAB in the Bartow Arena. The Owls volleyball team fall to 8-10 overall and 1-4 in the American Athletic Conference while Blazers improve to 6-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blazers topped the Owls in hitting percentage on the night as they hit .254 compared to the Owls to .121.
- UAB's Jorda Crook led all players with 14 kills in the victory.
- Alabama-Birmingham's Chloe Rodriguez led all players with six individual blocks with the team totaling 11 on the night.
- The Cherry and White's Taylor Davenport earned her 13th double-digit kill match of the season with 11 kills.
SET 1 (UAB 25, TEM 21)
- UAB's defense blocked the Owls six times in the first set, holding its opponent to a .070 hitting percentage.
- On three occasions, Temple went on runs of 3-0 or more but UAB recovered to extend the lead, including cutting the lead one point late in the set, 20-19.
- The Blazers' Crook had a team-high four kills with .273 hitting percentage and Chloe Rodriguez anchored the team with set-high three individual blocks.
- Davenport led the set with five kills and freshman Christiana Greene earned four kills while hitting .333.
SET 2 (UAB 25, TEM 19)
- The Cherry and White got out to a 2-0 lead but the Blazers six straight points with four kills by Abby Jones.
- After a sideout, leading 19-16, UAB scored three straight points to extend its lead to 23-17 with Mia Reese getting two kills.
- The Owls cut the lead to four with a 4-0 rally with back-to-back blocks and an ace from setter Lexi Yoza and a kill from Davenport, but the Blazers hung on for the set victory.
- Jones led all hitters with six kills while hitting .417.
SET 3 (UAB 25, TEM 22)
- UAB took a commanding 20-8 lead in the third set but TU scored eight straight points to cut the lead to 20-16 before the Blazers were able to sideout. During the run Jones and senior Chelci Banks scored tallied two kills apiece.
- With home team continuing to lead by five points, 22-17, the Owls scored five of the next seven points with the help of two Davenport kills.
- The Blazers' Crook had six of 10 kills as she hit .417 in the final set.
- Temple's Sydney Jones had a set-high seven kills while hitting .500.
