Varsity 4 Victorious for Men's Crew at Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA - Temple men's crew put together a solid opening day of fall racing at the Navy Day Regatta on Sunday. The Temple A crew entered in the Collegiate 4+ event earned first place, while two boats entered in the pairs event finished second and third.

FROM HEAD COACH BRENDAN CUNNINGHAM: "Solid performance today from the team. The stern four of the Varsity 8+ placed first in the College 4+ event, with our Pairs finishing 2nd and 3rd. The Fours did well, securing 1st, 6th, 8th, and 11th, and the Eights placed 7th, 12th, and 16th. Many athletes raced twice and we're looking forward to improving our speed in the coming weeks. We feel good about our momentum."

HOW IT HAPPENED

The pairs were up first in the morning, with Pascal Evans and Dimitrios Stasinos closing in second place just over six seconds off the pace set by La Salle's pair.
Finishing third for the Owls was the duo of Dean Hargrove and Angus Tremlett.
The Collegiate 4+ race came next, with Temple's A boat, racing out of the Silky '87, earning first place by over 14 seconds ahead of a pair of boats from La Salle.
Temple's B shell finished sixth, the 'C' boat eighth, and the 'D' crew 11th.
The final race for the team was the Collegiate 8+, with the Varsity 8 performing to a seventh-place showing in a quality field consisting of nationally-ranked groups from Penn, Georgetown, Drexel, and La Salle.
Two other 8+ boats finished 12th and 16th for Temple.

The Owls return to action on Sunday, October 20 in Boston at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
