GREENVILLE, N.C. – Freshman Sydney Jones recorded 16 kills and 10 digs on Friday night, her sixth double-double of the season but the Temple Owls volleyball team fell to 8-12 on the season and 1-6 in American Athletic Conference play after a 21-25, 22-25, 26-28 loss to East Carolina (11-6, 4-3) for its third consecutive defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Pirates held the Cherry and White a to a .138 hitting percentage behind Fran McBride's match-high six blocks.
East Carolina had three players in double-figure kills: Ellie Pate (14), Angeles Aderete (12), and Aulie Huff (10), all of which who've hit .244 or better in the win.
Temple setter Lexi Yoza also added a double-double in the match with a team-high 20 assists and 14 digs.
Through the first two sets, the Pirates never relinquished the lead. However in the third set, the two teams combined for 16 tie scores and eight lead changes.

SET 1 (ECU 25, TEM 21)

The Pirates gained a 15-8 lead to start the match behind Aulie Huff's four first-set kills.
Down by nine points, 19-10, the Owls rallied, scoring eight of the next 11 points. Jones played a big part of the Temple run with three straight kills and four in total to cut the deficit to 22-20.
East Carolina held off the surging Owls, scoring three of the final four points. Alderete and Pate connected with a pair of kills, their third and fourth kills, respectively.

SET 2 (ECU 25, TEM 22)

Though the Owls were down 15-10 heading into the media timeout, the Havertown, Pa. native Jones led with five of her seven kills in the set.
Out of the media timeout, the Owls scored four-straight points to cut the deficit to one points. During that span, former Pirate Alyssa Finister connected with a kill while freshman Christiana Greene added two more.
The Pirates thwarted off the Cherry and White run to score six of nine points to extend the lead back to four points, 21-17, forcing a Temple timeout.
East Carolina held off the Owls to win the set, but Jones continued to be a offensive force with her final two kills of her teams' four points.

SET 3 (ECU 28, TEM 26)

A highly contested first 29 points of the third set saw the Owls ahead 15-14. The came out with five different players with kills including two from Jones and two from graduate Taylor Davenport.
Out of the media timeout both teams played to a 22-22 score with Temple not allowing the home team not to take the lead.
Temple had their first set point of the match at 25-24, but ECU swung the advantage in their favor, scoring the next two points, and their first of three match points before coming away with the win.
Both Owls' freshman Jones and Greene had a team-high four kills in the third set, while Aldrete led the set with five kills.
