Rimpel Shines as Temple Notches Second Straight WIn

10.19.24 | Men's Soccer

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Temple men's soccer team defeated UAB 1-0 on Saturday night on the road in Birmingham for TU's second straight win. Xavier Rimpel scored in the 57th minute to clinch the in-conference victory. With the win, the Owls are now in sole possession of fifth place in the AAC with two matches remaining on the schedule.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Owls were aggressive from the opening whistle, with a shot on goal from Alex Champagne in the fourth minute.
  • Andrew Kempe hauled in an impressive save in the 26th minute, diving to his right to keep the Blazers off the scoreboard.
  • TU closed the first half with two shots in the 45th minute from Xavier Rimpel and George Medill.
  • Xavier Rimpel scored in the 57th minute, following a scoring chance sparked by a free kick from Lukas Egarter.
  • The Owls had two more chances in the 60th minute after two quick shots from Elias Betancourt and Jayden Jackson.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Rimpel's goal was his second of the season. He now leads the Owls in goals and points, accumulating six.
  • This was Andrew Kempe's second consecutive clean sheet and his third of the season. His previous clean sheets have been against Memphis (Oct. 12) and American (Sept. 2).
  • The Owls have now gone three straight matches without conceding a goal, marking their longest shutout streak of the season.
  • With two shots on goal this match, Xavier Rimpel is now tied for sixth in the AAC in shots on goal with nine. 
  • This is the third time this season that UAB has been shutout, previously going scoreless against conference leader Memphis and No. 7 North Carolina.
  • This win pushes Temple to five points in the AAC standings. The Owls now own sole possession of sixth place in the conference with matches against FIU (4rd) and Tulsa (T-6th) remaining. The top six teams in the conference by the end of the season will advance to the AAC Championship.
UP NEXT
The Owls will close out their homestand for a matchup against Florida International on Saturday, Oct. 26. The action from Temple Sports Complex is slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
