Whitney, Walsh Register Top-10 Finishes at Big 5 Championship

10.24.24 | Men's Golf

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. - Seniors Ethan Whitney and Michael Walsh tied for eighth place individually as the Temple men's golf team competed against five local programs at the Big 5 Championships Thursday. The Owls finished in fourth place at 314, one shot behind Villanova.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Temple began the tournament with a quality first nine holes, and held the lead heading into the back nine.
  • Whitney led the event individually after his even-par score of 35 on the front nine which included seven pars, a birdie and a bogey.
  • In blustery conditions that made scoring difficult, the back nine proved to be tough for the Owls, especially the par-4 10th.
  • Overall, the 36 golfers in the event had just one birdie, 12 pars, 16 bogeys, six double bogeys and a triple on the 444-yard hole.
  • Senior Jake Naese led the way for the Owls on the back, shooting two-over par 37 and carding the lone birdie for the team (par-5 16th).
  • Penn won the team title at 304, four shots in front of Drexel. Villanova's Ryan Palmer won medalist honors with a one-over par 71.
UP NEXT
  • Temple has a quick turnaround and will fly to Florida for its final fall event of the season, the FAU Invitational, on Oct. 28-29.
