PHILADELPHIA – The Temple volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak on Sunday afternoon in McGonigle Hall as it defeated Florida Atlantic Owls (10-6, 2-2 AAC), 27-25, 25-21, 25-18, to improve to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in the American Athletic Conference.  In the sweep, the Owls were led by freshman Sydney Jones with a match-high 15 kills, while middle blocker Chelci Banks had a team-high six blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TU's .319 hitting percentage is the second-highest of the season, just behind the .333 it accumulated on Aug. 31 versus FDU.
  • Jones's .438 hitting percentage was season-high and career-high.
  • Offensively, Banks had a season-high eight kills and a .667 hitting percentage. Additionally, her six blocks in the win had put her at 14 in the last two matches.
  • Katelyn Robine earned team-high 14 kills for the Florida Atlantic.

  • The Cherry and White were assisted in the set victory with runs of 3-0 on three occasions.
  • Florida Atlantic went into the media timeout leading by a point, 15-14, but Temple remained close with the help of Banks and three of her six blocks in the match.
  • Jones and graduate student Taylor Davenport combined for 11 kills, with Jones coming away with four of her six putaways after the media timeout, while Davenport totaled five in the set.

SET 2 (TEM 25, FAU 21)
  • Overall, TU was efficient in the second set, hitting .350.
  • Jones led Temple with five kills, but was backed up by fellow freshman Christiana Greene and Banks with four..
  • Just the like the first set, the Cherry and White was unable to pull away with a big lead throughout the first 43 total points. Temple led all the way throughout except for two points and four tie scores.
  • Robine did all she could for the Florida Atlantic club, connecting on six kills and hitting .750 in the second set.

SET 3 (TEM 25, FAU 18)
  • Florida Atlantic started set three going up by the score of 3-0 with kills from Robine and Madison Dyer, and a service ace from Romina Cornelio, but Temple clawed its away back to tie the score at 5-5, getting kills from Jones, Davenport, and a block assists by Banks and junior Alyssa Finister.
  • Temple pulled away with a three-point lead, 15-12, at the media timeout as it scored eight of 12 points with three more kills from Jones.
  • The Cherry and White wouldn't be stopped down the stretch to earn the match victory, winning six of the final eight points.
