Jones and Davenport Combine for 46 Kills in Midday Match Versus Binghamton

PHILADELPHIA – Outside hitters Sydney Jones and Taylor Davenport combined for 46 kills on Wednesday, helping the Temple volleyball move to 8-9 overall on the season as it defeated the Binghamton Bearcats, 22-25, 25-13, 25-14, 14-25, 15-13 inside McGonigle Hall. The freshman Jones had a match and career-high of 25, while the graduate student Davenport tallied 21.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The duo of Jones and Davenport hit .286 or better with Jones hitting .327 on 55 hitting attempts while Davenport hit .286 on 49 attempts.
- Tsvetlina Ilieva earned a Bearcat-high of 21 kills while hitting .296.
- Both teams on the day hit over .200, but it was BU that hit a match-best .265 and Temple followed close behind with at .248.
- Owls' libero Hikialani Kaohelaulii dug a match-best 20 balls.
- In the first set with the Binghamton extending to its largest lead of six points at 22-17, the Cherry and White rallied to score three straight points behind kills from freshman Christiana Greene and Davenport, forcing a Bearcat timeout.
- The Owls cut the deficit to one point, 23-22, but it wasn't enough as Misa Dlouha connected on her team's set-high sixth kill to help her team to the set victory.
- Dlouha hit .750 on eight attempts.
- Jones and Davenport had seven and six kills, respectively.
- Both teams came out firing in the first set with Binghamton hitting .395 and Temple swinging .325.
- There were three ties and one lead change in the second set, but Temple led all the way throughout except for 1-0 score.
- TU held the Bearcats to a .030 hitting percentage with just eight kills. On the other hand, Temple came out of the set hitting at .379.
- The Cherry and White held BU's top hitter Llieva to a .000 hitting percentage in the set with four errors.
- Davenport and Jones had five kills apiece of the team's 15 kills.
- The Owls jumped out to a 9-2 lead and never looked back. On the Avery Luoma serve, the team used an 8-0 run behind the Columbia, S.C. native's Davenport three straight kills to begin the run.
- Just like set two, there was just one lead change.
- Jones continued to dominate the Bearcats' defense with five kills and a .400 hitting percentage with Davenport hitting .273 and four kills.
- With the set tied 11-11, Llieva tallied two of her set-high nine kills to help Binghamton extend its lead to four points before the Owls were able to sideout.
- The Bearcats used another 4-0 run to help seal the set win as they got kills from Llieva and Ella Schabort.
- The opposite happened in set four with the Owls managed to hit just .030 while BU forced the fifth and final set with a .542 hitting percentage.
- In just 28 points of play in the fifth set, the teams combined for five ties and three lead changes.
- With the score 3-3, Temple gained the advantage and never allowing the Bearcats to go ahead.
- The Havertown, Pa. native Jones came up big for her team three kills of the Owls final four points.
