Volleyball’s Yoza Earns Seventh Double-Double of Season Versus Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Sophomore setter led the Temple offense with 33 assists and 11 digs while graduate student outside hitter Taylor Davenport tied for the match-high of 16 digs, but the Owls' volleyball team dropped to 11-15 overall and 3-9 in the American Athletic Conference with a 11-25, 21-25, 23-25 loss to Florida Atlantic on Sunday at Baldwin Arena. In the win, FAU improved to 14-10 overall and 6-6 in the AAC.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With her 33 assists and 11 digs, it marks the seventh time this season Yoza earned a double-double.
  • Fla. Atlantic hit .304 in the match while holding Temple to .103.
  • FAU's Katelynn Robine matched Davenport with 16 kills in the match.
  • Victoria Hensley led the Fla. Atlantic attack with a team-high 32 assists.
  • Fla. Atlantic had 11 team kills, led by Madison Dyer's seven individual blocks.
     
SET 1 (TEM 11, FAU 25)
  • Both teams got out to a 3-3 tie, but Fla. Atlantic took the advantage and then went on a 7-0 run that included five TU attack errors.
  • After a Cherry and White sideout, Fla. Atlantic scored five of the next six points, getting an ace from Olivia Hart and a kill from Hensley.
  • Four Fla. Atlantic players had at least one block in the first set, helping hold Temple to a -.077 hitting percentage.
 
SET 2 (TEM 22, FAU 25)
  • The Columbia, S.C. native Davenport led Temple to begin the set with three of her team's set-high five kills, helping the Temple remain close with Fla. Atlantic in a stretch that saw the visitors win seven of nine points.
  • Fla. Atlantic opened the lead to four points, but the Cherry and White reeled off three straight points, cutting the deficit to one point with help of a pair of kills from freshman Sydney Jones and one from junior Alyssa Finister.
  • Fla. Atlantic won four of the last five points to win the set by three points.
 
SET 3 (TEM 23, USF 25)
  • Temple and Fla. Atlantic exchanged the lead on five occasions to begin the third set. The Cherry and White had the advantage into the media time out by the score for 15-10, with Davenport having six kills.
  • After the media timeout, TU pushed its lead to six points through 21-15. Three different Temple players; Mickhaila Murray, Christiana Green, and Olivia Hummel connected with one putaway.
  • Fla. Atlantic scored 10 of the next 11 points to take the lead, 24-22, including Valeria Rosado with back-to-back service aces and a kill.
  • Temple fended off the first match point with Davenport's 16th kill, but it wasn't enough as Robine matched Davenport for 16 kills to give her team the match victory.
