Volleyball Set to Host Senior Night and Alumni Recognition Day

PHILADELPHIA- The Temple Owls volleyball team will be back in McGonigle Hall to take on Tulane (Nov. 8) and North Texas (Nov. 10) this weekend. The Cherry and White will face off against the visiting teams for the first time this season. Friday's match will take place at 6 p.m. with Senior Night festivities after the game. Sunday's match will take place at 1 p.m. as Temple volleyball celebrates its alumni during the second set break. Both matches will be available on ESPN+.
 
PROMOTIONS
  • Post-Game Autographs: Post-game autographs from the Temple volleyball student-athletes will be available to all fans on the concourse following the game.
  • Youth Clinic: Any children, in eighth grade or below, can participate in the youth clinic taking place after the match.
  • The first 100 fans will recieve a Temple volleyball t-shirt prior to Sunday's match.
 
SCOUTING TEMPLE
  • Temple volleyball is 11-15 overall and in 11th place of the American Athletic Conference with a 3-9 record.
  • Last weekend, the Cherry and White fell, on the road, in both of their matches in Florida.
  • The Owls traveled to Tampa on Friday to face USF, falling in three sets to the Bulls (22-25, 18-25, 15-25). Christina Greene and Taylor Davenport combined for 16 kills with eight apiece. Lexi Yoza dished out 19 assists on the night. 
  • The second game in Florida saw TU travel to Boca Raton to face Florida Atlantic. The Temple volleyball team fell in three sets to their hosts (11-25, 21-25, 23-25). With a stuttered first set, the Owls picked up the momentum to make the match competitive. Taylor Davenport contributed a team-high 16 kills behind Yoza's seventh double-double of the season (33 assists and 11 digs).
  • Over the weekend, the Columbia, S.C. native, Davenport moved up to sixth all-time in program history after her combined 24 kills, totaling 1483 in her five years with the Owls.
     
SCOUTING TULANE
  • Tulane holds a 14-10 overall and tied for sixth place in the AAC with a 6-6 record.
  • The Green Wave is led in the kills column by Sami Jacobs (278) and Avery Burks (239). Zoe Rachow (497) and Katherine Crosley (450) have acted as the main assist providers for Tulane this season. Graduate Student, Jacobs, has also led the defense with her 325 digs. Sabrina Skyers has averaged .93 blocks per set with 88 blocks on the season.
  • The Green Wave split the weekend with a 3-0 win over UTSA and a 2-3 loss to Charlotte. Friday saw Tulane host the Roadrunners and sweep the Texas team (25-19, 25-18, 25-19). Agata Beksha recorded a double-double as she reached a career-high 14 kills with an additional 10 digs on the night. Skyers hit .400 while adding three blocks. Burks saw 25 receptions to lead the Wave defense. Tulane hosted Charlotte on Sunday which saw a five-set match (16-25, 26-24, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13). Sophomore, Avery Burks, led the Wave with 17 kills and 36 digs. White added 8 kills on a .400 hitting percentage and 7 blocks.
HISTORY VERSUS TULANE
  • The Cherry and White first faced off against the Green Wave in 2014 which saw the Owls sweep the Louisiana school 3-0. TU holds a 10-6 series record against Tulane. Last time out, Taylor Davenport (15) and Chelci Banks (14) combined for 29 kills in a five-set thriller.
 
SCOUTING NORTH TEXAS
  • North Texas is 8-15 overall and tied for seventh in the AAC with a 5-7 record.
  • They are set to host Florida Atlantic on Friday before their matchup with Temple.
  • The Mean Green offense is led by Payton Van Venn with 216 kills and Kamryn Scroggins dishing out 467 assists. Scroggins (197) and Aryn Johnson (173) have led North Texas in the dig column this season. Ryann Vik and Priscilla Jones have protected the net with 63 blocks each.
  • Last weekend, The Mean Green dropped both games against UAB (0-3) and Memphis (1-3), extending their AAC loss streak to five. On the road to Alabama on Friday, North Texas was swept by the Blazers (21-25,15-25, 18-25). After a highly contested first set, seeing 12 tied scores, Mean Green saw a drop-off in performance in the subsequent sets. Van Veen led the team with seven kills at a .200 hitting percentage. Friday marked another road game for North Texas, resulting in a loss to Memphis (16-25, 18-25, 25-23, 21-25). While the match resulted in a loss, it was the fourth time the Mean Green have reached 15 team blocks this season. Priscilla Jones set a season-high seven blocks. The junior, Payton Van Veen, and Aryn Johnson both recorded double-digit kills and five blocks on the afternoon.
  • North Texas stands in ninth place in the American Athletic Conference going into the weekend. 
     
HISTORY VERSUS NORTH TEXAS
  • The Owls fell in their first contest against the Mean Green last season in a five-set match. In the match, Davenport provided 15 kills and reached her 1000th career kill.

UP NEXT
  • The Owls will return to McGonigle Hall for their last home contest against East Carolina on Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. before traveling to Charlotte on Nov. 17 to play their final game of the regular season at 2 p.m.
