Freshman Christiana Greene Powers Temple Past Tulane on Senior Night

PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Christiana Greene pushed the Temple Owls volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-15, 27-25 victory over the Tulane on Friday night with a career-high 15 kills. Temple improves to 12-15 overall and 4-9 in the American Athletic Conference while Tulane falls to 14-11 overall and 6-7 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Greene led the Owls with a match-best .667 hitting percentage.
Fellow Temple freshman Sydney Jones added her 16th double-figure match of the season with 13 kills.
Cherry and White graduate student Taylor Davenport added 11 putaways in the sweep.
TU setter Lexi Yoza was two digs shy of her eighth double-double of the season as she recorded at match-high 35 assists and eight digs.
Tulane's Avery Burks hit .308 with a team-best 11 kills.

SET 1 (TEM 25, TUL 23)

The first set featured 11 ties and three lead changes, but it was Greene leading the way with five kills, hitting .500 while Davenport and Jones added four apiece.
The Green Wave's Sami Jacobs led her team in the first set, matching Greene with five kills.
With the score tied 4-4, Tulane grabbed the advantage, taking the lead to the media timeout, 15-14, including a 3-0 run that was capped from Jacobs' first of two aces on the night.
After the media timeout, Temple took the lead, 19-18 as Yoza connected with two kills, forcing Tulane in to timeout.
The Green Wave called another timeout as the home team pushed the advantage to three points, 24-21. Yoza added her only service of the match while the Columbia, S.C. native Jones connected with two kills.
Temple held onto win 25-23, with Jones sealing the set with her fourth kill.

SET 2 (TEM 25, TUL 15)

Temple dominated the second set, winning by 10 points with Greene and Jones matching the other with four kills, but Jones hit astonishing .800.
The Owls held the Green Wave just to four kills on a .037 hitting percentage.

SET 3 (TEM 27, TUL 25)

With the set tied, 5-5, Tulane scored 10 of the next 17 points to take a 15-12 lead. During the run, the Green Wave got a pair of kills from Jacobs and Illyada Dermitas. Jacobs also added her second ace of the match.
Out of the timeout, Temple scored five of the next six points to take a 18-16 lead. In the comeback, the Cherry and White got kills from Jones (2), Olivia Hummel (1), Jones (1), and a Nalani McBride service ace.
Both teams traded points, but Tulane earned a set point, going ahead 24-23. The Owls thwarted off set point, scoring four of the next points, including the last three with two points from Greene kills.

Temple will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. versus North Texas in McGonigle Hall. Sunday will feature the Owls' Alumni Day and will honor the 25th anniversary of the 1999 Atlantic 10 Champions. Following the match Temple players will sign autographs and host a youth clinic to children who are in eighth grade and below.
