Temple Lacrosse Wins Season Opener over Colgate

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's lacrosse team opened their 2024 campaign with an 11-5 win over Colgate on Saturday. Seven different Owls scored, with four netting two goals apiece.
Belle Mastropietro scored twice, dished an assist, and added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Taylor Grollman saved six of 11 shots she face in goal.
How it Happened
> Neither team cracked the scoreboard for over eight minutes until the Raiders found the net at the 6:22 mark. Mia Ciancio responded two minutes later with the Owls' first goal of the season, firing one home off a rebound from the post.
> Mastropietro added another for Temple in the first, scoring one of two free-position goals for her on the day.
> Temple and Colgate traded blows in the second, with the Owls ultimately coming away with a 3-2 advantage in the quarter. Maeve Tobin, Julie Schickling, and Erin King each scored for Temple.
> The Owls extended their 5-3 lead after halftime, with Mastropietro, Schickling, Tobin, and Camryn Zavacky contributing to a 4-0 run over the first 7:11 of the third quarter.
> Ciancio and Lexi Culp each scored for the Owls in the fourth quarter. Culp's goal was the first of her collegiate career.
> The Owls defense held Colgate to two goals on seven shots in the second half, forcing the Raiders into nine turnovers in the final 30 minutes.

> Mastropietro has now scored two or more goals in eight straight games going back to last season. She also had a match high seven shot attempts.
> Mackenzie Roth dished a pair of assists to give her 78 in her career. She's now tied for fifth in program history.
> Maddie Barber led all players with four draw controls.
> Temple outshot Colgate 38-11, with 28 of those shots coming on goal.
