Women's Tennis Sweeps Villanova on Sunday Morning

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's tennis (2-2) earned its second victory of the season, sweeping Villanova (1-5) in a 7-0 win on Sunday morning at the Hecht Tennis Center. This is the tenth consecutive year that the Owls have dominated the Wildcats.

NOTES:

The Owls went 3-0 out of doubles on Sunday, picking up the team point. Overall, Temple went 6-0 in doubles action throughout the weekend.
Marianthi Christoforidou and Thamara Frasser Kawaratani began the string of wins, topping Villanova's Bella Steffen and Jenna Stevens, 6-2. The No. 20 ITA ranked tandem of Maiko Uchijima and Samantha Nanere dominated Emi Callahan and Maggie Gehrig, 6-0, followed by Jessie Zheng and Evie Wei defeating Valieriia Kornieva and Amanda Rivera, 6-0.
The Cherry and White won all six singles matches against the Wildcats. Christoforidou achieved the first point in the slew of victories, defeating Lauren Monti, 6-0, 6-2. Kawaratani followed suit in a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kornieva. From the third position, Zheng topped Callahan in a 6-3, 6-3 victory, followed by an Uchijima 6-3, 7-6(4) win against Gehrig, a Vineetha Mummadi triumph against Maddie Hills, 3-6, 6-0, 13-11, and a three-set Nanere 6-7(6), 7-6(4),10-8 point over Stevens.
