Women's Tennis to Host Norfolk State and Howard University this Weekend

PHILADELPHIA- Temple women's tennis (2-2) will host Norfolk State University (0-1) at the Hecht Tennis Center on Friday, Feb. 23 at 6:45 p.m. The following day, Feb. 24, the Owls will return to the Hecht Tennis Center to take on Howard University (2-5) at 4 p.m. This is the Owls' second weekend at home.
THE OWLS
- The Cherry and White enter the weekend after sweeping Siena College (0-3) and Villanova University (1-5) with a 7-0 score against both opponents. Temple went 6-0 in doubles play and 12-0 in singles action throughout the weekend.
- In Temple's season opener, the tandem of Evie Wei/Jessie Zheng achieved a 6-3 victory against the Rams in doubles.
- As a team, Temple completed an intense fall season, where it played in the Penn Invitational from Sept. 8-10, the Villanova Invitational from Sept. 15-17, the Cissie Leary Invitational from Sept. 22-24, ITA Regionals from Oct. 6-8, the Princeton Invitational from Oct. 13-15, ITA Super-Regionals from Nov. 1-5, and the doubles pair of Samantha Nanere and Maiko Uchijima earned an invitation to the ITA National Fall Championships where they achieved the Round of 8. In November, the pair was ranked No. 20 in National Doubles Rankings.
- Temple finished the 2023 season with a 17-5 overall record, winning all but one match at home.
Scouting Norfolk State
- The Spartans started the season with a 7-0 loss to Elon University.
- To close the 2023 fall season, the Spartans competed in the ITA Regional Championships where they fell in the first round.
- In 2023, Norfolk State finished with a record of 1-5 in the conference and 3-16 overall.
Scouting Howard
- In a 2-5 start to the 2024 season, the Bison topped Mount St. Mary's, 4-1, and UDC, 6-1. Howard has fallen to Rutgers, the University of Pennsylvania, James Madison, Navy, and Villanova.
- Juniors Jordan Grayson and Nadia Pregram have carried the Bison wins in singles action.
- Howard made a run to the semi-finals in the MEAC Championships, elevating Sifa Butcher to First Team All-MEAC and Selah Stibbins to Second Team All-MEAC.
