Women's Basketball Travels to Birmingham for AAC Matchup with UAB

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (13-10, 7-4 AAC) will travel to Birmingham on Wednesday, February 14 at 7 p.m. to take on the UAB Blazers (17-7, 8-4 AAC). This will be the only meeting of the two teams this season and the first ever between the two schools. Both teams are within one game of first place in the conference (North Texas at 8-3 leads the AAC). The game will stream on ESPN+ and The Varsity Network App.  

LAST TIME OUT: Temple 59, South Florida 55

>  Tiarra East had her fourth game this season with 20 or more points and Tarriyona Gary came up with a game-clinching steal as Temple came up with a key 59-55 win against South Florida on Saturday afternoon. 

> East led the Owls with 21 points. She scored 14 of Temple's 24 first half points. The Louisville, Ky. native also pulled in six rebounds.  

> Rayne Tucker contributed with nine points and six boards, adding a pair of blocks.  

> Aleah Nelson tied a season-high with six rebounds, scoring seven. 

> Tarriyona Gary netted eight, all of them in the fourth quarter. 

> The Owls held South Florida to 30.0 percent from the floor, matching its second best defensive effort of the season.    

THE OWLS

> Temple currently ranks 6th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game (16.7) and 18th in turnover margin (+5.3). The Owls also rank second in the AAC to USF in turnovers per game (14.5).

> Tiarra East (11.8 ppg) and Aleah Nelson (11.7 pgg) are scoring over 10 points per game. Seven players are averaging over 6.7 points per game.

> Nelson has continued to stake her claim as one of the best passers in the AAC, ranking first in the conference in assist/turnover ratio (+2.1) and third in assists per game (4.4). Only seven players in the nation have more points and more assists than Nelson.

> On the boards, Rayne Tucker ranks 7th the AAC in rebounds per game with 7.7. 

> Ines Piper is in the top 10 in the conference in blocks (27).

SCOUTING UAB  > UAB is tied with North Texas and Rice with 8 AAC wins.

> The Blazers are led by Mia Moore who is among the conference leaders in points (15.3 ppg), rebounds (9.09 rpg), and FG percentage (47.6)

> Denim Deshields leads the AAC in assists (5.17 apg) and Maddie Walsh leads the conference in 3-point FG percentage (43.4).

> Head coach Randy Norton has paced the sidelines for the Blazers for 11 seasons and is closing in on 200 wins (194-136). 

SERIES HISTORY

> Temple and UAB will face each other for the first time.

> This marks Temple's fifth game this season against an opponent playing its first season in the AAC. Temple is 2-2 in those first four matchups.
