Owls Down Manhattan, Win Third Straight to Start Season
2.16.24 | Women's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's lacrosse team defeated Manhattan, 15-6 on a chilly Friday afternoon at Howarth Field, improving to 3-0 on the young season. Katie Shallow made some history in the game, tying the program record with her 98th career caused turnover.
Belle Mastropietro recorded her second hat trick of the season, leading the Owls with five total points. Amelia Wright and Camryn Zavacky pitched in two goals apiece, while Maddie Barber scooped seven ground balls and caused four turnovers.
How it Happened
> Mastropietro wasted no time getting on the board, winning the opening draw and taking it in herself to put Temple up 1-0. Manhattan tied the score shortly thereafter, but a barrage of scores by Wright, Zavacky, Mastropietro, Mackenzie Roth, and Mia Ciancio put the Owls up 6-1 after one.
> The Owls shutout the Jaspers in the second, holding Manhattan to four shots and forcing six turnovers in the quarter. Mastropietro secured her hat trick less than a minute in, and goals by Wright, Sabrina Martin, and Kaitlyn Stankavage made it a 10-1 Temple lead at halftime.
> Manhattan scored twice in the first four minutes of the third, but Zavacky responded with her second for the Owls. Temple's defense locked back in to hold the Jaspers scoreless until the 4:02 mark of the fourth quarter.
> Jenna Facciolli netted her first career goal in the fourth, converting off a free-position attempt. Hannah Schrader, Lexi Culp, and Katie Flynn added goals for Temple in the final quarter.
Game Notes

> Mastropietro has now scored two or more times in each of her last ten games. She sits at 154 in her career, eighth most in program history.
> Barber set a new career high with seven ground balls, and tied her career best with four caused turnovers.
