Lacrosse Continues Hot Start with 13-8 Win Over Delaware

PHILADELPHIA - The Temple lacrosse team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 13-8 win over Delaware on Wednesday afternoon at Howarth Field. The Owls' win streak to start the season is their longest since 2013.Â
Program history was made in the first quarter as Katie Shallow broke Temple's career caused turnover record with her 99th. She finished the game with four caused turnovers, four ground balls, and three draw controls. Mackenzie Roth and Amelia Wright each netted a hat trick to lead the Owl offense.
How it Happened
> Roth netted the game's first goal at the 11:02 mark, the lone score of the first quarter. The Owls defense locked things down early on, forcing eight Delaware turnovers and allowing only three shots on goal in the first 15.
> Temple extended their lead to four with three quick goals in the second courtesy of Julie Schickling, Erin King, and Amelia Wright. The Blue Hens got on the board twice, but the Owls bounced back with scores from Maddie Barber and Belle Mastropietro before the half.
> Temple outscored Delaware 4-3 in the third, with both teams trading goals. Roth (x2, Shickling, and Maeve Tobin scored for the Owls.
> The Owls continued to extend their lead in the fourth, with one goal from Mastropietro and two from Wright leading the Cherry and White offense.
Game Notes
> In addition to her program record, Shallow became the eighth active D-I player to record 100 career caused turnovers. She is averaging five per game this season, second most in the country.
> Roth's hat trick was her first of the season and seventh of her career. Wright's was her second this season and third as an Owl.
> Taylor Grollman saved nine of 17 shots she faced. The junior has posted a .50 save percentage or better in every game this season and holds a 5.07 GAA, third best in the country.
> Temple won the draw battle, 15-8. Barber, Shallow, and Mastropietro combined for 13 draw controls in the game.
> The Owls extend their lead in the all-time series, 21-18.
